I think the straps themselves can work fine but all that excess junk hanging off the side looks cheap to me.

If it were simply nylon (or whatever) straps that have a buckle they can look ok.

It would be the same if you bought a belt far too long and looped it back around your waist a few times.

Many NATO strap discussions have been posted about ad nauseum. The forum search tool in the upper right corner of your screen (near where it says "Welcome, [username]") can help you. But, to answer your question directly, I've had some really sh!tty ones (cheap nato straps dot come) and some nice ones (BluShark). The only watch that I have with a NATO is my GL0076 and it's on an Urban Gentry Valour NATO. Pic here of the strap, not my pic: https://www.snupps.com/theurbangentr...our-nato-strap

I think one of the most important things to look for in a NATO is the thickness of the strap itself, the way it is attached to itself (glued versus stitched... stitched is better quality), and the quality of the hardware (metal pieces). When straps are ~$30, buy a few, see what you like, return/sell/scrap the rest.

Best “nato” by far is the Chevron from crown and buckle. Very adjustable, great look, has a normal clasp instead of the typical bundle of extra fabric like a traditional nato.

I am a fan of the basic nato straps from Toxic nato straps.

I have no affiliation with the company but have found that straps from Seadogstraps work fairly well for me and are affordable enough that I have purchased a selection. Doesn't hurt that they're made by a small business in NY State either which keeps it local.

They are not made there, but they are sold there.

Get metric nylon straps made in the US is not a easy feat. I only know of one company with deep enough pockets to do it.

I went through a phase of buying a lot of natos/canvas straps. Eventually I prefered to not tamper with my more appreciated watches. Now I really only mess with my SKX. I like the HD Nato that cheaper lines like crown & buckle sell. There seems to be less excess fabric and can be adjusted to a position more like a standard buckle on the inside of your wrist vs having it all bunched up on the 12 o'clock side of your wrist. I can't stand the added thickness most of them caused.

I have a couple of the Omega NATO straps for my Omega watches. They are a bit expensive but the quality is actually really good.

There is a difference between the cheap ones and the nice brands. Last one I bought was from blu shark. Picked them over the other nicer 30$ish brands because of color scheme.

I dont like the second strap that makes them a “nato” so i cut it off. Like having a sliding keeper as I like to feed it over the keeper closer to the watch then back under the sliding keeper closer to the buckle if that makes sense. Dont like to have to stuff the tail under both keepers

I've been looking at their Chevron straps, but they're too small for my 8" wrist - barely enough leftover strap to get through the buckle. There's no option for a long size, either. Same with their Perlons. There's not even a number to call to ask about options/one offs. Very frustrating, because I think I'd really like the Perlons and the Chevrons.

Hey dude are you sure on the Chevron length? It’s very adjustable. I’d be really surprised if it didn’t fit you.

Yeah I just measured mine (my strap...) and it would comfortably fit a 9” wrist.

It's too small to put it on safely and easily. There's not enough tail to work with. You need to deduct from length lost due to curvature around the buckle and lugs.

For a single pass nato on an 8" wrist, even 10.5" is a hassle - 10" is awful.

Definitely go for a seatbelt strap nato. It’s thicker and very comfortable. I grabbed this one off of amazon for next to nothing.

I absolutely hate NATO straps with additional piece below watch head, tucked strap end at 12, it looks horrible.

That being said, I had some one piece Bond variant from timefactors and it sat in my drawer for years, because of I couldn't find a watch it suited. Seamaster GMT was top heavy, speedmaster didn't felt right on it.

Then I bought Explorer II and as I could not find decent rubber strap for summer, I tried my old NATO. It took couple of weeks on and off and now I am NATO convert, already ordered couple more straps for summer. Still think that original two piece strap is crap though.

+1 on Terry’s straps, especially the Shiznit (seatbelt type material) and N8O versions. Haven’t purchased any other brands since I found these.

Easy fix. Use a nickel as a template to trim off the excess and a lighter to reseal the end.
