New member from Denver, CO. Honestly, I never thought I'd purchase a Rolex. I've been wearing smart watches since the Pebble came out, but I've always wanted a "time piece" -- something that would last awhile. I feel like smart watches are designed to go obsolete where-as high end luxury watches are meant to be passed down for generations. My latest watch is the Apple Watch 4 and I don't see me passing that watch down to any one. In fact, I see it being replaced in about a year.

Anyway, I originally wanted to Rolex Explorer but the wait times are over a year here. I put myself on a wait list, but I have doubts that I'll ever get a call. I can see a year coming and going and never getting a call. I ended up getting the Oyster Perpetual 36. I wanted something thats very simple looking that I could wear all the time.

Who knows -- if I ever do get a call for the Explorer I, I may still get it.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Thank you for sharing your story.

You should eventually be able to obtain an Explorer if you hang in there.

It took me almost a year to get mine, but I was happy to wait as I never cared to to deal with the gray market sellers.

Dealing with my AD, who does his best for his customers, made it all worthwhile.

Welcome to the forums. If you visit other AD's and share your story, you might get lucky much sooner than you thought.

I am seeing the term "AD" a lot. I assume that means authorized dealer?

Yes. A boutique is a Rolex-only store. An AD is a dealer that sells other brands including Rolex (assuming we're talking about Rolex AD's), often specializing in Rolex and usually some Tudor and other high end brands (Patek, Vacheron, IWC, etc.)

A TS (or Trusted Seller) is another acronym you'll see here often, which denotes someone who may or may not have a brick and mortar store, but has done hundreds of transactions of many different watch brands here on the forum and that's how they make their living. You can absolutely trust in them to send your money first and then they ship you the watch, or send your watch, and then they ship you the money. Your $7,000 (for example) while a lot of money to some, is a drop in their monthly bucket of transactions and their reputation is paramount. This is a route you can take on a watch like an Explorer I if you don't want to wait a year and you don't mind paying a few hundred dollars more (or sometimes less depending on the model) to have a BNIB (Brand New In Box) model with likely a named and dated warranty card or a LNIB (Like New In Box) model that is in excellent condition but is maybe a year or two old and has been babied. You'll get to know who they are in the classifieds section. BP or B/P or B&P means Box and Papers. Some watches come with them, some don't.

One thing you'll learn here is buy the seller, not the watch. Don't let a good deal make you blind. Buy from very reputable sources and enjoy peace of mind. A TS always ensures authenticity if you're going the "grey" route.

Hey welcome to the forum, your OP is a lovely watch......don’t give up hope for your Explorer. I just got the call from my AD to pick one up a week ago, after only 2 month wait. I was Expecting at least a years wait, as waiting times here in the UK are horrendous for Explorers and any Steel sports. The guy at the AD said that they had phoned 2 other guys who didn’t want the watch so I was next up. It may may be just like that, it’s a bit of luck also.....you’ll get one, just needs a bit of patience.

I think the OP is a great watch and I wouldn’t give up hope on the Explorer.
