Buying a watch, very weird sticker situation, need help

Hello all, my good friend is about to purchase a watch from someone here on the site, seller has few references and he constantly posts new watches for sale. That particular watch that my friend want to purchase, the seller has it for few years, and as he says he wore it only 5-6 times.

Whats weird about it, all the original stickers are present on the watch, the ones on the bracelet, the bar code on the side, the back sticker, all of them, like it was just purchased. My friend asked the seller maybe pictures were old and they from when watch was purchased, but seller said no and that he wears his watches with all original stickers.

Anyone else does that? Because that sounds a bit absurd to me.

Thanks.

Is it that big of deal?
Buy the seller, if you and your friend don’t feel comfortable, keep looking.

Wearing a watch 5 or 6 times lightly should not affect the stickers at all. Sometimes they work off quickly and other times they like where they are. I always like to leave the stickers on the clasp until they come off, if I have that option.

Some people actually wear their watches with.stockers still on.

Weird. OCD. And just downright icky. Think of all the dead skin cells and crap trapped on the edges of the stickers

Would not surprise me if gray dealers have a stock of stickers. And seems to be a massive amount of watches for sale that are posted for sale with no apparent wear. Clearly watches are being sold as "new" "NOS" and "like new" but have been polished/buffed and stickers reapplied. The more $$ involved, the more incentive to bend things in ones favor.

I’m pretty sure he doesn’t wear it openly. It’s very hard to notice the sticker. You have to look up closely to see them. So it’s not weird.

You should make sure the seller is legit.

No but definitely talk to him and google his name and phone numbers. Email address. eBay account. Any other info to make sure he has an outstanding track record.

With all the focus on investment and value retention these days, people go to all means they can to protect the "value" of their investment, which includes leaving stickers on, no matter how awful or tacky it looks. I've been through it so I have no right to criticize those who do it, though I eventually learned the foolishness of my ways.

Buy the seller. Also, I’m still finding stickers in weird places on mine so they definitely can stick around.

Pun intended.

Rolex stickers stay in place even after several full washes. They slowly peel off in time but you can even reapply it with a bit of soapy water and a hair dryer. They deteriorate in time and you can peel them off by then or if you get really annoyed with it already. But this could take months.

The pcl sticker closest to the lugs with the “ears” can be left on for months, even years. They are good quality stickers. I have seen 2 year old lightly worn watches with the barcode stickers still intact.

The watch will never smell like a new watch though, just like a new car. That new watch scent is gone after a few days at most.

I have 20+ yr old watches w stickers in place. Your question is reasonable, but in the future ask the seller directly.

This guy has it right above. If your uncomfortable now wait until you buy it then the felling will only get worse.
I did that once and the feeling never went away until after I had the watch opened up which I shouldn’t have done.
I can speak for davidsw and timepiecegentleman. Both top notch and responsive. Buy the seller not the watch ! Walk away from this deal so many great dealers on this site with great feedback.

Check The Who’s who section in the classifieds to see if anyone has had positive/negative things to say. As everyone mentioned, buy the seller and don’t do the deal if it isn’t sitting well.

Check for feedback in the Who's who section.
make sure there is leant of feedback from people with many posts.

Its too easy to re-register and just make a fake recommendation.

If you think or even have a slight feeling that something is wrong ... then it probably is wrong.
If that's the case ... Walk away.

Can a bracelet be resized with the stickers on or do they have to be removed for sizing?

Yes You can size a bracelet with the stickers on.

But ... is it safe to resize the watch bracelet .. Thats the bigger question.

Hi Everyone!

Sorry I didn’t see this sooner.
Ruslan1987, please confirm the username matches identically to mine, also recently my account was locked for possibly being hacked (obviously it has since been unlocked with help from Moderators and the TRF owner/admin clearing it). I include my phone number in every listing and I make it a point to try to talk over the phone to every person I sell to or buy from. I think it makes things more personal and easier on everyone’s nerves knowing the other person is actually a real person. Plus, I meet a lot of really cool people, some of which I’ve kept in contact with to talk watches every once and awhile. Getting back to the subject, unless I’ve talked to you in person and I don’t believe I have, you weren’t talking to CSwatch3945 but rather some one trying to imitate me. There is a post in the “who’s who” section by OCRolexGuy about a recent issue with a scammer doing this with trusted dealers usernames.

I pride myself on being completely transparent, honest and upfront. I will gladly answer anyone’s questions in a public thread or private message.
(Just please notify me via message if asking in a public thread so I know where to reply)

Thank you,
CSwatch3945

MinMay,

This is perfect advice, and is what I stress to everyone. Never let anyone make you think they are to big to reference check. I have plenty of info online as well as a Top Rated eBay store. Most importantly, I put my phone number in every listing and urge anyone to call with any questions about my references or just to talk watches...

Thanks

I still have the sticker on the back of my BLNR. I think it's a good thing to have it there since that is where your ring strikes when you out your watch on.
