Does anyone want to talk Tudor Chronos??
Hi all,
Hope this isn't the wrong place to go but I'll exercise my "idiot newbie" status and give it a shot. Dan P. was kind enough to give me a crash course today but I've still got a few questions; I think I've got an idea about the 79160,79170,79180 series and maybe the 792.. series but what's the difference between those and the 792..P models? What's the deal with the TIGERS (facts and general opinions both wanted)? What is the next generation after the P's ? Does any of the Tudor Jubilee bracelets have a fliplock? I think they are all 40mm in diameter but which series has the thinnest cases? And finally (well maybe not) my biggest question; what kind of parts/service issues might I have here in the states. I know Rolex USA is not always the most accommodating group. My big confession is that this watch will be for my wife. She likes big watches and wants a chronograph. She loves the oyster bracelet on my 16710 GMT which she hijacked and wears regularly but I thought the Tudor Jubilee might be more feminine. I'm a little worried about the thickness so a "big block" might not be a good choice. I'm also concerned about a plastic crystal or high polished bezel as I think she's rough on watches. Any info or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Here's the obligatory pics; These are the last two pieces she picked up when she went shopping in my watch box. And this one is a mid-size I bought her a few years ago to keep her out of my watch box. Best, Mike |

And sorry I ignored your questions, others on here will have better info than me, but I love the Tudor Chrono line, the older ones at least. Great watches, very comfy, well made and look just awesome on the wrist.

P = Polished lugs. The 792XXP resembles the modern 116520 Daytona, whilst the 792XX has brushed lugs and looks more like the older 16520. "Tiger" (from Tiger Woods - that Tudor sponsored) is written on some of the dials in the late 90's/early 00's. Opinion? I prefer non-Tigers. After P there is nothing!!! - Well, not really. The 792XXP was the last iteration of the old style Tudor Chrono - with cases very much the same as Rolex. Production stopped late 2007 - or early 2008. Now their design is of their own, and you can check out the site: www.tudorwatch.ch The 792XX-series also has a slimmer and more rounded case (which I prefer), whilst the 791XX-series has the big block case (no rounded sides). My 79260P is exactly 39.5 mm in diameter and 14 mm high. It also has the Jubilee with the flip lock clasp - and I believe only late serial has it (from 2005?). Earlier had the ordinary clasp. 792XX have sapphire crystals - but I read somewhere that very early 792XX have mineral glass - but I am very uncertain about this. Service in the states? Have no idea, I live in Europe - where the Rolex AD:s offer service. Also it is a standard caliber 7750 inside, so service should be of no problem. Here is my 79260P: It is most likely one of the last watches in Europe that was sold. I bought it BNIB from the AD this year - on impulse (after being influenced by all the Tudor threads started by Dan P I've also added a used Oyster bracelet (from a Rolex Daytona actually) with polished center links. All in all at a cost of less than a quarter of a Daytona - BUT the Tudor has a LOT of merits of its own, especially on its Prince (Jubilee) bracelet, that is (in my mind) a perfect blend of the Rolex Oyster and Jubilee, and with black bezels, like Dan's and mine. As you have guessed, I have been completely sold on Tudor chronographs - and it happened VERY fast Best, A |

I'm gonna like really like this thread
After purchase last October I took my 79260P to be checked at RSC Bexley, the technician said that because of the short production time the Tiger will definitely be the most sought after Tudor Chrono in a few years, particularly the models with vivid coloured dials. I know that this doesn't sit with the current thinking here & on other forums but the RSC guy himself was wearing a Tiger with a deep red / burgundy dial & said he had just bought 2 other Tigers for each of his sons. He also added that Rolex personnel were also buying the Tiger models |

Mike,
We have a few more Tudor experts that I hope will join in and shed more light on the enigmatic Tudor brand. Service should be no issue in the US. All Rolex service centers and watchmakers w/ Rolex parts account should be able to service any Tudor with no worries. Having said that, the more vintage references are still treated with the same lack of concern seen with vintage Rolex watches. And parts are held very close to the vest with an exchange policy only. dP
