how does AD keep records of clients purchase history
Hello,
New member in there. It is waste of time complaining about shortage of SS sport models. But usually best and most simple advice to get watches you want is to make some relationship with AD. How do they keep records of clients purchases? Is there a difference in paying with cash or credit card? I mean I wanted to buy my 3rd Rolex. I went to AD I hade some nice chat about watches, the lady was very friendly and professional. I was lucky to buy some blue DJ41 they just received in the morning and they did not even put it outside the box. BTW nowadays there is even shortage of DJ LOL and ppl are putting themselves on WL as well !! I paid in cash, received the watches but that was it. Unless I was putting my name on WL for 2 watches (Polar Exp. and Batgirl) they would not even know my name, have my number or anything. So how do they keep records of your history? Is there a difference between paying in cash / credit card? Do they need to just know you in person? There are many SR in that AD I doubt they can remember me unless I buy like new watch each month. Thank you for replying to my maybe noobish question. Have a great weekend guys! |

It takes time, but working with the same person helps.
A few years ago when my father wanted his first Rolex, we found someone at an AD that we liked and he's still the only person I would go to for a watch. Stop by when you get a chance and say hello. It's not always about getting a watch. Best case scenario is finding someone who actually cares about watches. The person I work with is not only a good guy, but he knows and cares about watches.

The more you spend, the more they remember you.

Most ADs (and jewelry stores) establish ‘accounts’ for customers - especially return customers. Basically an electronic representation of purchases, services etc. any interaction where $ changes hands.
This has absolutely NOTHING to do with access to watches. For me - the owner and one of the managing sales reps are old friends - and they know what I’ve purchased over the years. Some very ‘old school’ ADs have individual charge accounts - but these are normally for very well established customers with many many years of history with them. Nowadays - with the current market - it’s essentially an entirely new paradigm. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Visit once in a while, make them remember you. Deal with the same person, make friends with him/her. Leave your number. Ask for the not so hot pieces and buy them. Then they will put you on "the list".
That "batgirl" reference though... |

Buy three gold models in a month, they will remember and perhaps let you buy a SS one as well.
Buying from a grey dealer is a lot cheaper

You would think any AD these days keeps a database of clients, address, contact info, and purchase history regardless if paid via cash or cc

if they dont know who you are, its sort of irrelevant.
purchase history really only matters when its high enough they remember.

I can share my experience. The AD I purchased from keeps some sort of card with your purchase history and preferences. When I picked up my SS SkyD, I asked to be placed on a waiting list for the white DaytonaC. She added that information on to that card along with other watches I was interested in. I’ve paid for my watches using their store credit.
As far as priority on a list, I was told not to hold my breath since I would be waiting for years for the DaytonaC. I’m not in a hurry and I’m happy to wait. Hope this help. |

Most jewelry retailers use a "point of sale" software program. By typing your name in it will show a complete record of everything you have purchased or paid for - repairs, straps, etc.

I don’t think they do, they probably just remember you if you buy a lot, my Tudor AD couldn’t remember me buying a pelagos a few years ago

i asked about a watch before i even moved back to houston like 9 months ago. Dont really want it that bad but i went in there today to have them send my wife's YM to Dallas for me, they let me know I'm still on the "list" and i didn't even bring it up. Doesnt help get watches with zero history there, but they remembered me.
so that's step one, i guess

I only have 1 Rolex. However, I was so impressed with the customer service given to me that I commended the SA to the store’s owner in an email. She remembers what I purchased.
Granted, the AD is a small mom/pop business. Yet, she and the manager were so impressed that they check up on me occasionally & have offered a few watches that I declined for personal reasons. YMMV |

Hey OP
My AD keeps your name on a yellow post-it note. When you put your name on a waitlist, they put your name, phone number and watches you want. Then they stick it on a wall in the ladies room. The old notes fall to the floor, and get swept away, so those people don't get anything. But the notes that stick, get watches. |

What a nightmare if that really happens. If that kind of list falls in the hands of the wrong people, it‘ll be the perfect handbook where expensive watches and jewellery can be stolen. Additionally the fiscal departments in many countries would be interested in these lists and maybe ask some people, where the money comes from for all their expensive watch and jewellery purchases |

As I said just because I put my name on the waiting list they get my name but otherwise I would just pay and leave and no one would have any info about me. I don't have my name on warranty card, just my initials.

My AD keeps records of how much is spent, I'm sure it's in a central computer database. One day he asked me if I wanted to know the total, I said no thanks ignorance is bliss.

I guess it’s a cultural difference thing. Any dealer in the US is going to “establish an account” when selling you a Rolex regardless of how you pay. I can’t imagine one just counting your cash, handing you the new watch, and saying “thanks, Mr. Doe.”

In this day and age, most if not all, merchants of durable consumer goods automatically record the customer's name and item purchased in their data base forever. You could walk into a lawn mower store where you have bought some mowers and they can easily pull up your purchase history. Every jewelry store I have ever bought from has my full purchase history. Computers make life more structured. Not like years ago where paper sales receipts were just discarded by merchants after sales tax and tax audit times ran out.

most retailers will have a database, so regardless of charge or cash payment they record your info and your purchase history.

My AD has everything on a computer database, I could see the watches that we had discussed line by line and I was able to edit the watch configuration where applicable.
There didn't appear to be anywhere on my page to add any comment or note, eg wants for 60th Birthday in 2021 or special anniversary. I suppose that this is because the AD cannot guarantee when a watch will arrive at the store, if you request a specific watch you just have to be prepared to purchase when it arrives. |
