Incoming 16610SD

Oh what is that you ask?

Well it is what you get when you prefer the Sea Dweller ascetics but do not want the HEV or thickness.

First you start off by calling Rik about an Omega you have in for service. Then you continue to shoot the shit as it's easy to do with Rik... Then you ask about a Tudor 79190 as it checks the "Sub in the collection" box and if Rik happens to ever run across one.

Then Rik says - "Nothing at the moment but I've got this 16610 here that I can make a good deal on.."

Go on....

Does it have Lug holes?
- yes

SEL?
- yes

Price?

So within 24 hours I went to hunting a 79190 to having a 2001 model year 16610. Rik was the man of the hour and I couldn't pull my wallet out fast enough. I think it is due to the fact I call to pick his brain every few weeks or maybe if he gets me squared away I'll leave him alone

Long story short - Rik not only has provided excellent service for me (multiple watches) but can also be the source for diamonds in the rough. So if you are hunting something specific might be worth giving him a call.

-- back to story --

I hate the cyclops. It is the panty line of Rolex, flame away but I just do not like them. Nothing against date models as many of my watches have them- that said my Rolex journey has been 100% non date models (114060 / 14060M / 214270). Well I got a hell of a deal and told myself I'll see if it grows on me at all. Well FedEx overnight arrived and within 5 minutes of having it on I decided this isn't going to work.

I've done the torch/razor method on other watches in the past but thought I'd give the hammer/knife method a go. It works and works damn well. I used a fixed blade and small gunsmithing hammer....quick short tap and the cyclops went flying.

End result is the hotness.

I am also pleased with the 93250 bracelet. It is a nice mix of old and new as I own/have owned the 97200, 93150, 77200, and now this model. I need to see if my 77200 (214270 bracelet) will fit but we can look at that later.

So project SubDweller has been completed. The lug hole case is perfect as I am a strap whore and love Terry's straps from ToxicNatos - I've got a box with several dozen nato's and Terry hands down makes the best.

Without any more delays here is the newest addition to the family.

Doesn't hurt it is a flat-4 either.

Looks good! Can't go wrong with a 5 digit.
BTW would you sell me the cyclops? I wanna make my 16600 a Sea Mariner.

I'd take the thickness sans HEV, I'm just a believer in less components that have potential fail-points the better.

I've had HEV/HRV valves fail before on other non-Rolex watches, does that mean that the Rolex system is prone to failure...well no but its still a variable that can be bypassed with a simple mod.

From the looks department the SeaDweller is it. Even going outside my normal 4/5 digit love and will say that the SD4K is the best looking diver Rolex has ever put out. Pricing is prohibitive for me but if I had the cash I'd get one in a heartbeat. In theory I could but I'd rather have equal money into a Sub and Explorer (2 is 1 kinda thing).

You have the best of both worlds but I will say the 16610 wears substantially different that the 14060/M to me, this coming from wearing the snot out of one. There is a perceived difference in size not as drastic as say a 114060 to 14060/M but I notice it.

You can have it as I see what you did there.

I'd wager you are better off having one put on by an AD with a shop or send it to Rik. It is 18 years old and new ones are not expensive (and fresh & clear).

If you seriously want it PM me details and I'll mail it to you.

Glad that you are willing to modify your Rolex watches to make them what you want.

And that you share the results for all of us to see.

♛- Yet to be determined, but a white 16520 is on the short list. (I believe that I'll be able to read it better than my old 116520)

Rik is top notch, I visit him every couple of months when leaving work on a long lunch break being he’s 30 min drive away. Last I saw him early last month I had him swap out new seals for the LV and had him regulate the 16710.

Love it! Any issues with toxic natos fitting between the spring bars and case head? I have almost all natos are tight on Rolex’s.

No, some do require you to remove spring bars and then put them back on with strap against case (can't slide them through). The Toxic Rogue and Shiznit are this way but work great.

The standard nato Terry has can be slid through and is my usual go to.

In my opinion the 1.1-1.2mm straps slide through the "gap" and the 1.3-1.5mm straps need the spring bars popped off/on.

Thanks! Half the reason for the nato is the easy change out (sliding through) popping the spring bars

I think I’m going to have to look for a 16610SD myself
