Interesting discussion.

When I was a child I was told. "Right is right and wrong is wrong".

When I was a young man I was told. "We are right and the bad guys are wrong...Duty is Honour".

When I was trying to get ahead in life I was told. "The MAN is bad and is keeping us all down".

When I became successful I was told. "Your kind are the problem and time to give and fix the ills that you have caused".

Now that I am old and looking at the downside of the slope of life; guess what? "Right is right and wrong is wrong".

Mind you, that's only the tip of the iceberg - everybody involved needs to be made accountable for everything they do. Shortly before I resigned, the welfare organisation's CEO turned up at a staff meeting and proudly announced the implementation of a $950,000 statewide intranet system. I asked him what it was for, and he said that the managers needed to keep track of their budgets. I replied, "You do realise that you could print out the budgets on glossy paper and courier them to each and every manager every morning, and it would still cost you less? In the meantime, is this the reason why I have to fight tooth and nail for every dollar I can get for my kids' activities?". He was left speechless, and at that point I started seriously thinking about leaving the job. For the government, the families and the agencies, I saw a godstopping degree of stupidity being exercised and as much as I loved the job, I knew I had to leave before it ate me up.

You pretty much echoed my earlier post. Something is really wrong with the welfare system in Australia, when in some cases it simply entrenches poverty and rewards miscreants.....

This is a growing trend....the youngest pregnant patient currently in my practice just turned 13. Very sad!

Lets hope that this baby breaks the cycle and somehow helps to make the world a better place.

Even though this is a sad situation, is any of this new?

When I was 13, I was thinking about sex and wanted to have sex. How many of you had the same thoughts? I am sure that some of you even had sex at that age.

Education and controlling the media are the only things that will help.

Vu, do you mean education about birth control, or education that it's really not a good idea to have babies until you can afford to take care of them? I think some of these teen pregnancies are intentional!

All you have to do is turn on Maury and there are shows every day about young young teens trying to get pregnant.

I'm just going to add, since this thread is resurrected, that two other boys have come forward saying that they may be the father of this baby. What a sordid tale.

I would say both.

Kids need to know the consequences of their actions. They need to comprehend how having a child can affect their lives.

I'm in my early 30's and I still don't think I can afford children. How is a teen suppose to be able to afford one unless they are wealthy? And even if a teen can afford to have a baby, they are now responsible for another human being. That's what needs to be taught.
