Well, we have closure on this mess!

PayPal has refunded me, Mike at Rolliworks bought the re-lumed Red Sub, and I have somehow narrowly escaped being ripped off. Amazing.

There are a few TRFers who deserve mad props here but they've requested anonymity, so I'm honoring that. That said, I would not have been able to do this without the help of this fine community. The "smoking guns" that our community members provided (in the form of screencaps) was everything I needed to ensure that I was able to get a refund and move on from this debacle.

Also, of course, thanks to Mike and Rolliworks. Stand-up guys!

In fact, I was able to go in to Rolliworks in Campbell, CA and meet them in person and tour their growing and impressive business! I picked up a few T-shirts for my son and I talked watches, and business, with Mike. If you're in or around or Campbell, you should stop by!

And, yes, my New Year's Resolution will be to be better at buying vintage!!

I’m glad to hear that this case is closed. I’m curious, you got the refund and sold the watch back to Mike. Are you even on this transaction? I know you traded your GMT.

I find this very confusing...

Oh, and also, I did have a chance to go visit Mike and his team at Rolliworks...

They have a great location and are clearly growing quickly. Great facility, too, and Mike was nice enough to walk me around for a tour. Really cool to see!

I'm going to send them a 93250 bracelet and...gasp...maybe even my 16520.

If you're in or near Campbell and are a WIS, you should definitely stop by. Not only can you talk watches, but they also sell Everest and have a nice selection of T-shirts that will stoke out any watch nerd. Why, yes, I did go away with a few!

Until you get the chance to go visit, here's a few pictures of their store:

Holy moly! I feel like I just binge watched eight seasons of "Game of Thrones: 1680 Red Edition"! Glad to hear that the OP was made whole. Here are my take aways:

1) Mike/RollieWorks REALLY stepped up to help mitigate this sideways rolling flaming train wreck. Definitely a stand up operation all around.

2) The seller (16ARP) should not only be embarrassed, but I'm of the opinion that he should be at least stripped of the ability to sell here. While not a major scam (run off with all the money, send no product), it was still a scam. Lies and purposeful omission of information in order to get someone else to pay for his mistake/lack of knowledge...shameful.

3) There are some very knowledgeable people here (but I already knew this) and people with very finely tuned BS meters that saw right through the seller's (16ARP) lies.

Oh, Happy New Year everyone! :)

I have a somewhat similar story...I bought a GMT 1675 from a reputable, long time online seller that advertised "worn serial #." When I received watch, I quickly sent off to Rolex Dallas for service as a new baseline. The watch was quickly returned stating that service could not be initiated due to intentionally removed serial #, but strangely Rolex listed the serial # on the receipt. I then sent the 1675 to a very reputable independent servicer, he agreed with Rolex Dallas regarding the serial # and outlined his thoughts in an email. I threatened to expose the seller, received an additional discount on the 1675 and the baseline service was completed by the independent servicer. I have all the emails, receipts, pictures, etc showing the history of my findings but I don't intend to sell the watch anytime soon and enjoy it as my daily wearer.

I bought a one owner Tudor Monte Carlo 7149 that the serial was rubbed off by the endlink. The owner bought it new. With a Loupe and some patience you could read it. It wasn’t completely gone.

Sheesh what a story, this feels like a spin off of Uncut Gems.

There is a 1680 Red Sub listed for sale in Lyon, France right now and this thread has me spooked by the coincidence!

Glad everything worked out @Cloudchaser but what I also find very impressive is you responding to all of these questions! Here we are at page 11.
