I've always been a big fan of 36mm DJ with fluted or engine tuned bezels..

The least among them...

1980 16030

I bought this a couple of years ago and have never even worn it. It was on ebay from a low count seller from Columbia and was not getting much action as you might imagine.

I had no intention of taking a chance either but on a whim I called the seller who turned out to be a nice guy who gave me confidence to take a flyer if the price were right. I decided 1750 was my limit and bid with 5 seconds left and when the dust settled it was mine for 1656.

It appeared on time and well packed. I put it on the red/black NATO for a quick pic and right into storage.

I found this oval link jubilee on ebay a couple weeks ago and it needs home so I think I'll get the 16030 out of storage and make myself a watch. :)

Rolex actually replaced the dial and hands free of charge during a 2009 service. The dial tarnished really bad and was almost a salmon pink color. They said the hands were also tarnished which I didn't notice but they replaced them too.

That's really cool to hear. Interesting that they still had a supply on hand. I wonder how long and how many of each part to a specific watch they keep around? Is there a giant vault somewhere in Switzerland full of watch parts for every watch they've made?

Absolute favorite Rolex model is the Datejust. Owned multiple Day Dates, Subs, and Yachtmaster, my daily go to is the DJ. I am a big guy so the DJ2 is my daily beater

Hi it is vintage 1601 with coin white gold bezel. If I recalled, it is circa 1962. I have the chronometer paper with me but need time to retrieve it to find out. But the year is around that period.
