Right now I’m without a proper watch as I’m on the waiting list. I have been my wife’s carer for the last three years so put my career on hold.

I am in the hospitality industry in NYC and I own two Rolex watches. The first one is a 1995 GMT Master ii with a coke bezel ref. 16710 and the second one is 2008 M serial Polar Explorer ii ref 16570 with a 3186 caliber. My next acquisition will be an Explorer 1 with the latest lume. I think I'll stop after that...!

I’m a fed so I don’t wear a uniform anymore as a general rule. If we have an op planned in advance then we’ve got uniforms to wear but those days are pretty rare for me as a general rule.

Thanks dude! I'm not exactly balling out of control, which is to say I'm doing well for myself but don't have the kind of disposable income to make impulse purchases in the price range of the pieces I own, these purchases were thought out over a long period of time. I got the Sub first, thinking it would be my only watch, and it totally could have been, it's such a great all-arounder...but in my mind, I always wanted a datejust (fluted/jubilee was the archetypal idea of "Rolex" for me and many others growing up)...I didn't even know what a Submariner was until I started getting interested in Rolex in general a few years ago. After getting those, I decided I needed one more to "round out" the collection, and wanted something with a white dial to mix it up...the Exp II polar fit the bill. Admittedly, I've enjoyed owning these pieces so much that I still lurk the forums and am interested in continuing to learn about horology in general, but I'm content with what I have (for now at least), which is cool. I'll also admit that because of my income level, I stuck with Rolex for prestige/notoriety/resale value, should I ever get into a pinch...that being said, I've become pretty attached to the shiny little things, and have no intention of ever selling. For me, 3 pieces is enough - If I own more than that, I don't think I could rotate them regularly enough to justify owning them. I don't like the idea of my possessions gathering dust. It's the same for my electric guitars and bikes...its play them or sell/ ride them or sell. Life is already cluttered enough to have a bunch of "stuff" laying around simply for the pleasure of looking at it. Function over form...ok, mostly - if I were a true believer in that I'd be wearing a Seiko diver.
