Is this thread ever gonna die!!!!
Think Rameses II started this, discussing Two tone for some of his jewellery he was gonna take into his afterlife. |

Chaps
The OP asked a simple question, why are TT watches unpopular. The answer I am afraid is simple - They look cheap and tacky and it is the sort of thing you would expect a pimp to wear. Either go for all gold or SS but TT is just plain naff. It belongs to the 1970s, when frizzy hair, gold medallions and flared trousers were considered trendy and five years later everyone cringed in embarrassment. Mick |

It still traded up ok. I hope it's getting the love it deserves.

I bought my first TT decades ago because it would match up with either gold (blazer buttons, belt buckle) or Silver colored. I have this thing about wearing a gold watch with silver buttons, shoe bits, etc.
When I flipped my TT's (Rolex and Cartier), both dealers told me TT was "outdated" and plain SS would actually bring a bit more due to demand. I was shocked. Now I will buy what I like and not care about what is in vogue. I may plump for a TT Sub with the blue bezel and dial (I almost did last year). Or a WG and Blue Sub. Not sure yet. The wife wanted a TT Yacht because she thought it looked good. But we don't plan on selling our watches. Even Patek makes a TT watch so it can't be too gauche. |

I have been wearing TT subs for years because they tend to worry me less than my all gold pieces (small scratches). My solid 18k sub always scratched easily where my TT subs just held up better. Also the fact that they seem to go with everything is a bonus.

Some strong commentary - not unlike a number of my own past posts. Having matured quickly here all I can add now is although TT is not my favorite I can and do appreciate the love other TRF members have for it. The Daytona pictured/posted above is actually a perfect example of how wonderful TT can look.

Ha! Ha! I actually thought about you, Mike, and Steelerfan when I read that statement that " most pimps wear all gold " Is there something you guys haven't been telling us?
Nice way to generalize everyone who loves precious metals. Maybe some people just love the look of gold. This is the biggest pimp of them all, but for some reason he didn't get the "pimps wear all gold memo" Bunny Ranch Owner

Failing to have the fortitude to read all 18 pages of this thread let me just say the issue I believe in the US is cheapness. Get a cheaper watch and save as opposed to spending for the precious metal. No one wants to pay the up charge.

The TT Blue Sub is a nice versatile look imo. Sporty enough to wear with jeans, and classy enough to wear with a suit.
