I assume your referring to Bachendorf's...and I've heard the same line from them before. Unfortunately, if you're in a major market such as Dallas, there is often going to be enough demand from local clientelle that they can reserve them for their special customers.

You need to check with AD's in the smaller markets, where their customer base is smaller...you've got a better chance that way.

As for Dallas AD's, I've always been treated well at De'Boulle.

first time I tried it the AD saleswoman insisted that I tried it on before I left. I was picking up an SD and a Sub that they had pressure tested. I spoke about my job, and when she learnt that I had never tried an SDDS on, she insisted. I almost bought it on the spot. Hadn't it been for my wife calling to tell me to hurry up I would have...
The sales woman even gave me two Rolex green service carrier wallets for the watches I bring along when I travel.
One of the wallets now works as a perfect carrier case for my iPhone!!

I had a wonderful experience yesterday here in Tampa. Never been to this AD before and they allowed me to try on as many as I wanted and even permitted me (in a room of course) to take pictures of them on my wrist!

Dont know why any AD should consider a DSSD as high end in reality the only

It sounds like you were at Ben Bridges. They are the only Dallas AD that I have spoken too that still requires you to be a "preferred" customer.

I have a good relationship with Eiseman's, Bachendorfs at the Galleria and Jared's in Lewisville. Jared doesn't discount, but they don't play games and will sell you whatever model if it's available. I bought a SS Daytona from Jared's last week. I did buy a Rolex DJ for my wife from Ben Bridges in Frisco, but I don't consider that a good experience. I was able to get 5% off from them, but they charged me $100 to ship it out of state without telling me the cost upfront.

The DSSD is nothing special to the point requiring a no hands approach. I have visited ADs where they practically begged me to try it on even after I told them that I wasn't interested.

I've had different experiences, even at the same AD.

From my experience, I think a lot of it has to do with how you are dressed (sadly).

As others have said the salesman that DadsWatch72 mentioned just sounds like a bad salesman, being smug with potential customers is not the way to sell - even in situations when the product is in short supply (which is not the case with DSSD or most Rolex models).

It seems like AD salespeople go through some standard training as some things they say are pretty consistent, however there's still a range of performance as in any job - a few are great, a few are no good, and most are somewhere in the ok to pretty good range.

I was at my local Mall the next day after that incident. I had meant my Mother for lunch at Bar Louie http://www.restaurants-america.com/b...ation&locID=53. After lunch we were walking out to our cars when we passed by Jareds. We decided to go inside and take a look around. I wanted to look at the Omega's. Right when we stepped in the door we were greeted by a lovely young woman eagar to help. She even asked my mother if she needed any jewelery cleaned. My mother said she had a ring that no longer would come off her finger. They told her they could cut it off and repair/resize it on the spot which they did. I think that sales woman is the best I have ever meant thus far. Jared gets two from me. That AD in Elkhart should take lessons from Jareds.

My wife and I were in an AD in SoCal and we had a Pearl Master, Deep Sea, Sodalite DJ, and the new big DJ all out at the same time, no problem.

Bad training for the sales people to be haughty or smug. But, generally the attitude of the sales people reflect the attitude of the management.

What an utter pile of nonsense!
I went to an AD downtown yesterday. I had been there months ago, with a buddy who wanted to look at a Milgauss and a DSSD, and they were more than happy to oblige. Yesterday, we must have had 5 different models out of the showcase, including the Deep Sea, GMT II, Milgauss, Explorer I and a couple of Air Kings. This is one of the better high end jewellers in Vancouver, known for expensive jewelry as well as watches. They could not have been nicer. I have never bought a thing there before.
Anyway, how can anybody see something when it's stored in a vault? Often when I visit a shop, I see things that I have never seen, and I get interested because they are out on display.
What a horrible experience. Watch shopping should be fun, fun, fun. If I happen across an AD who doesn't help to make it fun, then I won't go back. I would probably own a Panerai now if it was not for the one AD in Vancouver who handles Panerai. The same goes for a Glashutte Senator Sixty series. It is a watch I would especially love to own, but I won't go near the place because of the AD.
Sorry to hear of your experience. I hope for your sake that you have another AD nearby.

What a bad AD!!! I'd never go back! I LOVE my AD (family owned). I remember the first time I visited my AD. I was just a nobody off the street and had on a plain shirt and shorts and a $400 Seiko on hahaha. After a little convo, it was learned that the manager (owner's son) and I knew some of the same people. I ended up purchasing my SS Daytona that day which, by the way, was in the display. AND get this...they accepted a personal check!!! (YES, it cleared the bank! ) Upon my next visit, the manager came over and tried to sell me on the GV Milgauss and DSSD (back when both of those were "new" and hard to come by). They were both in the display too. Just a few reasons why I'll continue doing business with this AD.

What is the deal? This watch, which will be my next purchase, is being HEAVILY discounted, every AD here has one, and they are easy to get. Best price from an AD so far is $7500.00. and they all will gladly let you try try on. I don't get it?? In the safe? Have to dress up? Not here. Southern hospitality?

I say let that AD shove that watch up their you know what. Some sales people are just smug and rude... When I went and got a particular rare Omega that I was on the hunt for it seemed like I was inconveniencing the saleswoman, I would have turned and walked out if it were not the only AD I could find with that watch. I wound up paying cash, bottom line is that these sales people that often look down on you are very insecure and unhappy, I kinda feel bad for them every now and then when I turn on the heated seats in my Lexus :D
