that's personal preference..there's a lot of people who hate and love daytona..some think it's too expensive, some doesn't like the looks, and some can't live without the date and a lot of people don't use the chrono.. The sub and gmt is more of everybody's watch. everybody likes it.It's more practical i think and better for daily use and it's more worth the money.Just my 2 cents...Daytona is just over priced coz there are more demands than supply..

Price doesn't have anything to do with whether something floats your boat or not. It wouldn't matter to me if the Daytona were the lowest priced watch in the line up, I've never had any interest in wearing one. But then I don't hate the Daytona, in fact, I like the old Paul Newman Daytona. The current model doesn't do much of anything for me. |

It is entirely too expensive for an SS watch but I don't blame Rolex for wanting to close the gap between AD & Grey market pricing. No reason to hate on the Daytona design though, just needs a damn date.
I enjoy mine & it's my special occasion Rolex. |

It's probably because it's so snooty, with all the celebrities wearing it and whatnot, not to mention the fact that it's a monstrously ugly abomination of a watch.

It's not that I hate the current Daytona"s, I just like the vintage Daytona's much better.

$10k or more for a smallish SS chrono with no date is over-priced. But I wanted one anyway, as it is a good-looking, fashionable watch with a good recognition factor. And it will in all likelihood, hold most if not all of its value due to the relative rareness. I rarely wear it, but I'm not sorry to have bought it. I like Zenith chronos better, and they see most of the wrist time.

I'm pretty new to TRF, but have been browsing quite extensively on here for the past couple of weeks. Certainly can't say that I have notice any hate going on for the Daytona. Personally, I am not in the market for a Daytona, nor do I know much about them. The chronograph functions are fine, and I really do like the way the Daytona has the screw-down push buttons, a feature not seen on many chronos. I would love an all Everrose one with black dial, though!
I think a lot of watch fanatics have a bit of a practical side to them, like me. If I don't have a use for the chrono functions, I won't get the watch. I did own one - a Breitling Limited Edition Avenger Skyland Blacksteel - but I sold it, with the push buttons it just seemed like too much watch for me, and although it looked cool it just didn't suit me. Of course, on the other hand it could be said that I also have an impractical side I just bought a Milgauss as my first Rolex. And I kind of doubt whether I will be in any areas of mass magnetization. However, I do like all the innovations the watch has, especially in the construction of the case and the movement. Place it looks damned good! I do think the Daytona is a fine looking watch as well! Cheers, Carl

Far from a hater just not a fan despite trying over and over
to fall in love with it. I have no true need for a chrono to start with BUT if I am going to go with a Chrono I rather something like a ROO which still at least incorporates a date into the layout. I really try to love the Daytona as I want a Zenith (just think its a potentially desirable piece to own for the future and I like the dial of the white one) but when it comes down to it and I put one on I do not get that tingle a watch of that price should give me. My favorite chono (while no where on the level of a Daytona) is my IWC Ti Aquatimer Chrono. It has a Day/Date and in addition to the chrono has an inner rotatable dive bezel. Again, it does not compare to the Daytona but it has everything I would ever want from a Chrono.

I used to hate the Daytona. I wanted one in SS, and they were too hard to get. Then I got one.
Still wish it had a date though. |

Hater? Not me.
Jealous? Definitely not, and I don't think that is the prevalent reason people don't like them here. Will I ever own one? Most likely not, at least not in SS. My beef is - it is too light, too thin. I don't care about the date function, give me a bloody 42mm case!!! Then I'd be all over it. I do like the weight of the solid gold ones - but I can't do YG, the Everose is too expensive. The WG Daytona with the black arabic dial is perfect for me. Well, perfect out of what's available, anyway. As far as the 'haters' - for every model there will be someone who thinks it is the best thing since sliced bread, and someone who deems it the worst Rolex has to offer. Milgauss and DSSD often are the topic of such arguments, but I doubt it is because anyone is jealous. Opinions differ, that's all.

Ditto. I would never argue that the price is what it is, because the market allows for pricing conditions to take place, it just surprises me that the market does bear that price.

Well I don't think many people are haters they may just not like the watch. I have passed on the watch three times within the last year when my ADs have called trying to sell me one. I have no need for a Daytona.
To each his/her own.

Don't hate it, just don't really like the look of it...
I have a Omega Flightmaster and Speedmaster chrono, I really like the style of them. My favorite watch is by far my Rolex. |
