That GMT looks awful!! Not that the Sub looks good. Why would anyone ruin such a nice and expensive watch!

The sub doesn't look that bad but that GMT just looks wrong!

Each to their own.

I like all black watches....but these look poorly done....the Pro Hunter line of black Rolexes looks much better...but I wonder how Pro Hunters hold up.

Like putting camouflage paint on a cadillac.

Not judging, but I imagine that if you can afford the watch, you can afford to have the customization done right, or purchase a "more" specialized tool.

I've seen a few blackened Rolexes here at TRF that look "done right" so not saying anything about modding the watch itself, just about choosing the quality of the work.

There are different qualities of these pvd or other black steel coatings.

However, you can't expect a 'coating' to wear the same as the natural raw steel.

Can the PVD be removed chemically to restore the watches?

Agreed they look like crap now and I have seen those watches when that black coating wears off on the edges and if you think they look bad they way they are now just wait ... they will look like a Casio in a years time. Was that a cruel thing to say? Sorry Casio owners, Casio's are nice ah my ex wife had a Casio and she was ah ... nice.

I don't reallly think PVD and Pepsi is a good combo. I think the Sub looks ok though, I just think it was photographed poorly.

I have never seen a PVD'ed Rolie in the flesh but I have seen many other makes that have had a PVD'ed finish and they looked fine, even after a year or so of wear.

There seems to be quite a few companies offering this service now so it must be in demand.

A PVD'ed Sub is certaintly more tool like than a blingly 2 tone job with diamonds on so I can't really see what all the fuss is about.

For the die hard Rolex fans don't worry about the PVD Rolies there are still millions of SS ones out there for you to drool over.

GMT would look good with a black bezel.

Black sub looks good to me.

I'm all for customizations with your watch, once you own it.
