I am a big fan of last years Boss for the price. I own one Valentino, 2 Joseph Abouds, 1 Burberry.

The rest of my suits are Ralph Lauren and a mixture of no namers with great drape and 140s wool.

It is more in the tailoring and in the Shoes imo...Now, you want to have a real conversation about shoes...then we can go on for a while.

I love these pi$$ing contests ..........so I'll bite.................

We have a business casual atmosphere in my office. I wear my SD with the following on a regular work-week;

- black Calvin Klein khaki's.
- Solid-coloured Golf-T shirt of brands such as R. Lauren Polo or Lacoste.
- Black Doc-Martin shoes.

On other days, a regular collared Polo-T'shirt with Gap jeans and again, my black-Doc Martin's or even running shoes.

Dry standpipe inlet...now I a even more confused. Is an inlet a vent? Dry meaning air, and maybe wet meaning water? A dry riser inlet may mean air is rising in?

It's like those zig-zag markings on the road. They look important but I have no idea what they mean! In the US we are taught when in doubt to hug the lines. That could be awful.

I think those zig-zag markings are used mainly in Britain. They warn the motorist of an approaching pedestrian crossing....and hence to slow down.

I'm unsure of the context. a dry riser inlet (on the side of a building) might be where the local FD hooks up with their pumpers to feed water to the interior of the building. a wet one being linked to the sprinkler system etc. inlet here would mean a way to connect and flow water into the system... you know the opposite of an outlet?

nice hijack by the way...

Any experience with Herringbone's suits, James?
They have some nice ones in their new range, I think.

Oh, and if you don't like Casual Fridays, you would hate my workplace.
If I don't roll my sleeves up and wearing something other than jeans, people react strangely, and ask why I'm so 'dressed up'

If I ever ran the place (god forbid) I would begin 'Formal Fridays', just so I can torture the people in my own little way

Herringbone and houndstooth were two that never quite suited my tastes, I'm afraid. The grey nailhead's about as far as i depart from chalk stripes.

A while ago I did work in a casual environment, and turning up in bermudas and boat shoes wasn't a bad way to go, but a suit's a no-brainer when it's 7.30 in the morning, you haven't had your fifth cup of coffee yet and there's lots of work to think about.

You've got a good point there.
I'm trying to slow down on the coffee.... which means I end up with a head-ache and wearing yesterdays jeans

Personally I don't like armani because they are too modern. I prefer more conservative/traditional styles.

Brioni is quality, you will enjoy the experience. I have several and they wear well, are always understated and different. Worth every penny.

Loro Piana is another 1st tier company. Be careful tho, pretty soon you'll be spending more on threads than on your rollies!

I wear Country Road suits personally, ladies ones of course! Thats an Australian Brand too

I'm also very partial to nice shirts with cufflinks.. very nice, especially when I find some more elegant cuff links... why dont they make them more for women I ask?

There's a great store thats opened up in Melbourne Central called Helsinki Bear.. they specialise in limited edition business shirts. For both men and women. Best part is each particular fabric is only made in around 20 shirts so you buy something a little more limited than most other retailers.
