The seiko is a pretty cool watch but if money was no option then its a no brainer, THE ROLEX!

Im not sure how the seiko can be a better thought out divers watch than the Rolex Submariner??

I will buy next january, after my graduation, a 14060m ... Baselworld is in march, so I think that there will be no availability problems 2 months before... They can't stop deliveries even if they change the bezel, case, etc.. two months later.

- price / awful lume / "look at me i'm rich" style / no date

For 30 years? Are you sure? If you are that sure its got to be Rolex Sub.

Very interesting, as I am considering the SBDX001 as well, as I recognize it to be an extremely well built watch, and very nice looking.

Also, I am considering the 600M, Spring Drive, SBDB001, with its rip-saw bezel -- so nice!

Both of the Seiko products, along with anything from the Grand Seiko line, are superior choices, especially since they are only (?) available in Japan.

Being a Rolex owner already, I suppose it is an easier choice for me.

Submariner (Rolex) first, Seiko second.

This is after all a Rolex forum, so of course the answers will be biased towards Rolex - pretty obvious, right?

I already have a GTM IIc and are waiting for 2 new Seiko's to arrive in the mail. My next watch will probably be either the SBBN017, SBDX001 or the SBDX011

If you look at it as an investment, sure the Rolex will probably be the better choice. But on the other hand, if you're looking for most bang for your bucks, then I would choose the Seiko any day of the week - I really think one needs to experience this watch up front to be able to understand its quality. (and yeah, the 14060 is one of my favorite watches of all time, but that's a different story)

The MM is a great watch, but it has some drawbacks: the monoque case prevents just any watchmaker from servicing it (will need to be sent to Japan) and of course since it is a Japan only watch, the warranty won't be good in France.

If money is no object, go for the Sub. They're simply are no drawbacks.

I am a big Seiko fan...most of my collection is Rolex/Tudor & Seiko.
I have seen the MM300, they're rare here in the USA, it's a well finished watch, the movement is Grand Seiko related...very sharp & there are guys in the USA that can service them.
The MM300 is a beautiful watch, but I prefer the Rolex sub as it fits my wrist better....which is
somewhere around the 6 3/4" +/-.
The MM300 has a longer case length.

I haven't bought it yet, but I will buy a 14060m in next january. why? Best movement, classic, and efficient service system for the next 30years... Seiko diver products are a bit "big" for me and my 6,3" wrist.. I will be happy for the first 3 months, but then... I will buy a rolex instead ;)

Since you are posting on a biased Rolex forum, the answer you get is obvious:
Rolex of course. Try also posting the same question on a Seiko forum, and the answer would be........

If you have the funds buy the Sub (with date), it will still look great in 30 years. I experience a great amount of pride when I wear my Rolex. The only problem with the Rolex is you will want another after you graduate.

Have to agree with Dan the Seiko is a very fine engineered watch and cannot see any reason to see why it would not last as long as the Rolex with the same proper care.The movement is very well engineered like all the Grand Seiko range,and with a bit of regulation I would expect it to perform inside or to the COSC spec.The main and only problem to some would be perhaps brand image and resale value.

Good choice and I think you've made the right decision. 13 years ago I made the wrong decision and bought a TAG Sub look a like. I could have afforded the real McCoy at the time but my nerve failed me, spending "that amount of money on a watch."

"That amount of money" was about half what I ended up paying for my Sub 10 years later and the resale value is now more. I should have bought what I really wanted in the first place and had 10 additional years of Rolex ownership.

Well done, go for it and enjoy wearing a treasured possession. Just think what adventures you're going to have together.

With the Seiko you will "scream" originality... especially if it is one
of the velatura or salmonela collection ? I always mix these two.
