"The Submariner -- formerly a tool watch, now a watch for tools."
No insult intended guys; more of a criticism of Rolex and the direction in which they are taking the Sub. What used to be a utilitarian instrument is more and more becoming jewelry -- a blingy fashion accessory. Admittedly, this is also true to some degree about my own 16610, although to a lesser extent than the SubC IMHO. |

TRF has some marketing talent!
Love all the Sub-c mottos... several good laughs. Great input for Eric88's forthcoming TOP TEN Sub-c motto POLL! |

For all you saying that the new SubC is not a tool watch anymore, what do you base that on? what have changed so drasicly from the previous models?
One change from the 16610 is the ceramic bezel, and those have been sold for 5 years and only a few have cracked? I guess that if you look at the classic Sub the bezel have for sure also broken, OK it is less expensive to fix but that does not make it a better tool watch IMHO The glide lock is far superior to the old clasp! The bracelet is much more supstansial and do not stetch as the old ones? The movemnt is updated to the better, parachome spring, the AR cyclop must be a huge improvent for a tool watch as it is making it more readable? The maxidial also make the watch more readable then the onld, and that is a huge improvemt for any tool watch I guess The lume has also been improved from green to blue to make it more readable under water and an brighter lume, and for you that do not know that Submariner is an dive watch and anything improving readability under water I guess make it even more a tool watch! So an updated model that have a better bracelet, more readable dial and date and lume, better clasp, bigger case (i.e more tough) and improved movement in your eyes it an less tool watch then the previous sub's, correct or not? So you who do not like the fysical apperence of the new subC do not buy it simple as that, but do not say that it is less of a tool watch IMHO! /masterkiller

As I have said in other posts, the Sub c is a 9.5K watch in Oz and is rapidly losing it's 'tool watch' status for me. I wear a 14060m (K from 2001) every day at my engineering business and am careful with it. It was < 1/3 of the price of the new Sub c. good 'fysical apperence' = nice logo for the new Sub c.

I think the real diver's tool watch of today is a Sinn U series. That's a legible watch! Maxi dial markers, maxi hands and a lot of text on the same area dial don't equal increased readability to me. I would only want the maxi minute hand.
