Sometimes you gotta go ape%$&# on specs to make a point in watchmaking. Rolex did it with the DSSD.

To the OP, get used to people bashing the Deepsea on this forum. They really can't help themselves. They know their watch isn't as well engineered, 99% of them have never owned a Deepsea but KNOW that it is uncomfortable to wear. It is bigger than other Rolex models but only by a few millimetres. However, it is not as big as many many other brands.
In my opinion, the Deepsea is a far better watch than the sub and SD 4000 (although I still love the old SD). If I didn't think the Deepsea was the best Rolex I would have bought something else. I see lots of threads on here about "show me your Daytona, DD, Sub etc etc and you NEVER see a Deepsea owner go there and bash away - why? Because they are happy with their watch and couldn't care less! |

I too loved my SD but the Deep Sea is my baby now. Fits great, LOVE the SIZE ,HEIGHT and WEIGHT! Its my daily watch. I do not go to board meetings . Only meetings with Aircraft Engineers. The DS impressed them. The writing on the ring lock is nearly invisable. The Deep Sea is one very well thought out and engineered watch. I AM HAPPY.No regrets.

after 3 years of wearing my 16610 i bought my DSSD in Feb this year & it's spent the bulk of this year on my wrist. don't get me wrong, the sub is a classic & i'd never part with it but, the DSSD is phenomenally comfortable & perfectly weighted....i had my reservations prior to buying it but am SO glad i did ..... we all love Rolex but, as for which model, each to their own

I used to have the TT GMT2 and wore that happily for years, wore well with both suits and jeans alike...when i bought my Deap sea...well i think it truely is an amazing piece of engineering. the DSSD just fits as well if not better because of the clasp, my son now wears my GMT..some of my colleagues say they preferred the old one, but HEY, i would never go back now...it seems too small...some people will keep saying...it's too big...too fat...too heavy...dont like the writing...we all have our likes/dislikes...mine says...IT'S PERFECT Enjoy it |

Don't get me wrong, I have one and it is an engineering marvel but I don't feel the need decrease the value and joy people get out of their watches. Hence, I'm not saying that it is what you did in your post, but there are plenty of posters that take that route. |

Patrick,
i know what you mean and i would never ever put down or otherwise state anything like that, I can see that some do go over the top at times and maybe that is why it gets such a rough time... but you have to admit.....IT IS THE BEST.. thats the great thing about this place....so many different views/opinions and a fantastic knowledge to boot Billy |

I'm really starting to like the DeepSea, haven't tried one on but as a nerd, can't argue with the specs, and the clasp is a work of art, quite possibly the best in the industry. I'd spend all day fiddling with it.

The DSSD is still my go to watch. Though I'd be more than happy to add some of the other watches mentioned in this thread to compliment it...

DSSD is not my cup of tea. I can't stand the blurryness of that crystal when you look at the dial from an angle. I love my classic SD.

I'm very please with my DS. It's weighted perfectly, sit great on the wrist, and is hands down the most comfortable watch in my stable. I have my eyes on other watches, but I'm pretty sure my DS will be my daily for years to come. To each his own, but I have never regretted my purchase.

I just got back from a quick dive trip to the Caymans and I have to say my DSSD makes for a great dive watch. It's clearly legible at depth, the glidelock clasp makes finding the perfect fit on top of the wetsuit a breeze, and the bezel is easy to adjust with dive gloves on.
Oh yeah, the extra weight on my wrist means less weight on the belt. FYI, as of last Friday, my DSSD's new record depth hit 133 feet at the Big Tunnels dive site. A very brief visit to non-recreational depths. I know that pretty much any of the professional line watches can do that but that solid hunk of metal next to the dive computer gives a certain sense of comfort. Throw in the fact that the watch wears well on land and you have a piece that`s vying for wrist time with the YM, with the others running second and third. Nothing but DSSD love over here! m. |

While it is an acquired taste, it has easily become my favorite watch to wear. I couldn't agree with you more.

There used to be a lot of dssd bashing on this board a few months ago, but it has stopped. Some users expressing that it is too big, or the bracelet too small is not bashing IMO. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. In the past people would say that it is a stupid pointless POS and that is bashing IMO. None of that kind of talk lately. However, I believe that the leopard daytona will always be the most criticized rolex here on trf...

I think they did with the Jacques Piccard Single Red DSSD. You may be able to order a replacement strap if a part ref# is in the catalog like past SD accessories.
