I only set it a few seconds fast for ones that tend to run 1-2 sec slow.
otherwiese I set the time to time.gov and reset whenever I remember for the ones that run slightly faster.

This doesn't work for me, because if I set my watch 4 minutes fast, I will always say to myself "it's ok, I still have 4 minutes"

Set mine a couple of minutes slow since it gains couple of secs a day. Let it run until 2 or 3 mins fast. Since it's a no date can go months without adjusting it.

I used to, 4 min. Because there are so many things you can do in your four min, even if it's nothing but relaxing.

Now, my watch is a bit fast, right now I am at about 90 seconds fast

My watch usually runs fast 2-3 seconds per day. When I set it, I usually set it 30-45 seconds slow, and then let it get to almost a minute fast before I set it again.

No. I set my watch to the time, because I want it to tell me what time it is.

i usually synch my watch with atomic clock if the watch runs fast ... then it will just naturally be ahead of time after a while ... if the watch runs slow then i set it 1 minute ahead of atomic clock ... i like to be on time wherever i go

I used to set my watch about a minute fast, but then I got an app for my phone that syncs with the atomic clock. Since then I set it as close as possible.

Set mine to time.gov on the first day of months that follow months that have less than 31 days, other than that, it hardly comes off.

I don't but my wife does. It doesn't help though, she knows her watch is fast so she just takes more time getting ready or whatever.

Depending. On some of my 'spot on' Rolexes I set the time accurate. With some of my faster watches I set them a couple of minutes early so they 'catch up' and stay on time.

Spot on for me. I train my mind to think ahead of time, thus giving me the psychological time buffer so that I'm not late for work/class/etc.

I set my watches that run on the minus side a minute fast. Watches that run on the plus side are set dead-on. I wear, rotate, and let them wind down. I'm comforted by knowing that all my watches run consistently and within COSC specs, including my 5512 purchased in 1961, my Bulova 23j Self-Winding purchased in 1959 (great overhauls by great watchmakers), and even my Hamilton manual winder w/ ETA 2804-2 movement. When set and worn they're never a minute or so deviation from the USNO master clock -- but who cares -- I bought them for their superb mechanical and aesthetic qualities. When someone asks me for the time, I say, "It's ABOUT 8:47."

But if you know that it's set 3-4 minutes faster, why would that give you "a little margin?" That means that you're well aware of what the true time is so what's the advantage? I don't get it.

I just reset mine to the correct time every month or so.
