I enjoyed season 1 of the series and just finished all four the books which I started reading once season 1 was over. Cant wait for season two.!

I am also a fan of;

Sparticus Blood and Sand
True Blood
Southland
Rome ( I know its over but still love the series)
I, Claudius (same as above on Rome)

Like you Steve, I also went out and got all the books after the first few episodes. I then stopped watching the first season so I could read the books first. I'm halfway through Book 5 (A Dance With Dragons) now! It's an amazing story, but one that has to be read quickly once started and with a lot of attention to detail; there's just so many characters! It's not a series you can casually read just to kill time. Book 5 is even tougher as it doesn't follow Book 4 in a classic chronological sense, but rather runs parallel filling you in on the other characters that weren't in Book 4! Then about 3/4 through it comes back together. If anyone likes Medieval history or is fascinated by the European feudal system way bak when, or if you like politics and a lot of violence and sex, read these books!

In terms of the show, Game of Thrones is incredibly true to the first book. They change a few things around for the sake of time, but most of the dialog is straight from the book. It's a testament to what a great writer George R.R. Martin is...

Agreed, book 1 reads like the script to the first season. That speaks not only to Martin's writing but quite possible the creative control he negotiated into his deal when he sold the rights.

hmmm... I wonder what brand of watch he wears...

I'm watching season 2 now and I just wanted to say that it's much more enjoyable after having watched season 1 a second time. As others have noted it gets quite confusing with so many characters.

Excellent show though!

I read the books and watch the series!

My wife only watches and I have to pause it and explain who is who sometimes. Lol
