Shoot, I'd get a Fossil or something and continue saving for "the" watch.

I have this exact watch. I have had it for around 6 or 7 years. Great watch. I found it for $300 at a Swatch discount store. Runs great and is my beater watch.

For the money it can't be beat! They do some pretty cool ones with more complications. I was tempted by a world time but it would have taken cash from my sub fund. If I'm honest, I'm still tempted!

I bought this a few years back from a trusted ebay seller. Got it shipped across from HK - from memory less than Ł100

I'd be happy to wear this as a daily wearer if life went t*ts up & I was back at square one with no cash

eddie, good to hear mate.... checkout chad's ball diver, "wyowatch" it is an older version and the tubes are huge and this ball is certainly one of the brightest in the line up. as a matter of fact, chad had my model and flipped it for his current diver.

I will second that. I had a PRS-18 for awhile, solid watch.

I would say go for a Steinhart. Under $1000? More like under $500 with an ETA movement and beautiful finishing. Mine is easily the most accurate ETA I own (and it was the cheapest ETA-equipped watch I own).

I also love MkII watches. Several are under $1000, and also use ETA movements and can be purchased timed in up to 5 positions (3 by default).

tag heuer aquaracer - hands down -
I bought one used for $650 4 years ago as my beater watch - and still love it -
best value for $650 I have ever gotten out of a watch.

Yes, it's an automatic - and still is within COSC time (been serviced once)

if you are a soldier, or seriously outdoorsy, I really recommend the Marathons mentioned earlier or an MK II watch. Both are incredibly durable, easy to service and extremely functional.

If not, the Bulova would be good as well.
