Nice job on Joba. That kid is good/will be great. Too bad Cashman and the Sons screwed the guy up. Who has 'rules' for new pitcher...absurd!

Mo- he's the man. No doubt about it. A class and nice stuff.

Let's see:

Lester
Beckett
Wake
Buccholz

Miller-Young better than anyone else the Yankees have besides CC
Dice-K...no comment

JP closing- His schtick wears on me but he is consistent.

There is no comparison in the staff.

The lineups are another story.
Okay let's clear this up:

AJ Burnett is actually having a decent season this year. He was terrible last year but he has an 8-7 record with a 4.12 ERA but more importantly he has pitched late into most games. You make fun of Colon all you want but he has a better ERA than everyone on the Redsox except for Beckett with a 6-4 record. His last outing wasn't good but he was coming off the DL. Before the DL he had gone 4-0 with an ERA of 1.1 in his last four starts. The Yankees have this young pitcher named Nova who has been awesome for a young pitcher. 8-4 record for us. He is legit. Our 5th starter has been Garcia and he has been adequate enough with a 7-6 record with 3.13 ERA but hopefully Hughes can right the ship and be back in the line-up as a legit pitcher.

Now Boston is a mess. Yes Beckett is off the hook and Lester was picthing well as well but he is now on the DL so who knows what he will be like when he returns. Bucholz was playing well but is also on the DL. Andrew Miler has pitched 4 games for Boston and he was terrible before signing with Boston. I doubt it will last and he is certainly not better than every other pitcher on the Yankees. His ERA is hovering around 3.57. Garcia has a beter ERA. And don't even mention Wakefield. The guy is washed up especially when he plays AL teams who have been him multiple times. His ERA is hoovering around 4.57.

I really don't see how you can say Boston pitching is so superior. It just isn't plain and simple.

As much as I have to admit it your right, the Sox pitching is a mess right now and I think Becket got hurt last night. Thank God for the All Star break !
If they can hold on the next couple weeks until Lester and Bucholtz get back I think they will be OK.

Breaking news there is still half of the season left. The standings mean nothing at this point.

Im hoping they take it to a game tomorrow. If Lester should keep them alive for one more day we're going to get a sudden death game in Tampa Thursday at 4:00. The Rays are 12-6 against the Sox this year and are playing much better baseball. Thats a game I would pay a lot of money to attend. To see the sox go down and choke in a 1 game playoff......priceless!

can't say i agree with this....i'm hoping for dagger-in-heart tonight. makes the collapse all the more dramatic and definitive, since it will not have required a 163rd game to complete.

more dramatic then a a sudden death, winner take all playoff game? OK. you're certainly entitled to that opinion.

We are in agreement though, just different means to the end.

Pretty amazing it all comes down to the last game of the season. If Boston doesn't make it then it will certainly go down as one of the greatest collapses in baseball though it still isn't as bad as the Mets collapse. The Mets had a 7 game lead in 2007 and lost it in 17 games. The Mets suffered a historic collapse by losing 12 of their last 17 games.

gotta disagree with you gary......what just happened was EPIC and historically awful (or, good, ). a link to this boston area article was posted in the other thread, and i thought i'd cut-and-paste the text below.

a glorious day!!

Historic choke ends Red Sox season

One strike away from going to a playoff game, the Red Sox early on Thursday put an exclamation point on the worst collapse in the history of Major League Baseball.

Boston had a 3-2 lead over the last-place Baltimore Orioles with two outs in the ninth inning, and closerJonathan Papelbon on the mound, but the Orioles hit two doubles and a single to win the game, 4-3.

Free agent bust Carl Crawford appearedto have a chance at a game-saving catch, but couldn't hold the ball.

Minutes later, the Tampa Bay Rays completed a comeback from a 7-0 deficit in the eighth inning to beat the Yankees, 8-7, on Evan Longoria's second homerun in two at-bats.

The Rays were one pitch away from losing in the ninth inning when pinch hitter Dan Johnson hit a tying homerun. It was his first hit since April.

The Red Sox were in first place on Sept.1. They are the first team ever to blow a nine-game lead so late in the season.

A recent quote from another member recently.
"I agree it is pathetic! Oh yeah and We (red sox) will see you yanks in october."

The only way the Ded Sox see the Yanks in October is if they buy tickets to a game.

Just love it! Curious as to why the original posters aren't chiming in. It would seem only gentlemanly to concede defeat.
