I have not been asked, however my friends know that my Rolexes are real. If a stranger asked me about it I would tell them its a fake.

It is an innocent question. Just answer and move on. This should not bother anybody. No big deal.

Well even the warranty card/papers don't always prove a watch is real in todays Rolex world. But myself have never been asked if it was fake/real, and in well over 30 years of wearing Rolex watches.Well you could count on one hand the number of times anyone has noticed whatever watch I was wearing.

It's all about context. So I disagree that it is a simple affair.

If my loud mouth / stuffed-shirt know-it-all brother in law asked, I would likely give him a snippy reply and make him squirm. If some knucklehead on public transportation asks loud enough for all to hear...Maybe I say
something different.

If a non-WIS friend asks and I may give yet another flavor of a reply...maybe a playful version of the "Are your teeth real" response ;-)

Never been asked YET. I think I would just reply that its real and get on with whatever I was doing before being asked that question. I would never lie that its fake just to get the person off my back, I see it as an insult to myself unless its a mugger deciding whether to mug me based on the authenticity of my watch LOL.

I would say my Rolex is FAKE. Who cares what others think? Only myself know and enjoy the timepiece.
This reminded me one time when I was at Ben Bridge Jewelery, while looking at a Submariner, the salesman looked at the GMT on my wrist and asked me "Is it a fake GMT?", I just walked out of the store without saying a word. I said to myself I can not believe a Rolex's salesperson can not even tell if it's fake or real. I never do business with them again.

If it is close friends and relatives, i say yes. otherwise the answer is always no. those who know me will not have to ask in regards to authenticity.

Not by a stranger

Been asked how much it cost a few times but never whether it is real, at least not by a stranger. In an attempt at what she thought was humor my sister asked once at a family gathering so I gave her an appropriately scornful look and replied "Of course it is.".

I think if a stranger were to ask if it is real I would feign confusion and ask what they mean. If they were to then pursue the issue enough to give an explanation on counterfeit watches I would say that the jeweler I bought it from isn't in business to sell counterfeit merchandise and that they should be careful where they shop.

I just politely tell them yes and just move on. I get asked quite a bit since I'm young and all.

I was asked in casino (Mohegan Sun), playing 3 card poker, by a pit boss...if my Milgauss was real.....after he literally got eye level with the watch to look at it....yes his head was on the table.

I said yes, and continued to take their money.

In all these years I can't recall anyone ever commenting on my watches, positive or negative. If someone asked me if my Sub was a fake, I'd give him "that look" and ask "what do YOU think".

In my 22 years of wearing Rolexes I have only been asked once if it was real and that was by a friend/superior at work during the first week I had it. Perhaps I was wrong but I felt the implication was "you can't afford it" and I was offended. If I am ever asked again my response will depend on the situation, more often than not probably simply saying yes and moving on. I tend to agree with an earlier comment that it's just an innocent question.

Ironically, the only person who ever asked me that wore fake Rolex's. I kind of laughed at the guy and said what's the point of wearing a fake watch - heck, I'd rather wear a real Timex! :)

That is unbelievable, I would have called the manager over. It is one thing for someone on the street to have the curiousity to ask, but a Rolex sales rep asking that question is an insult IMO....especially if the watch is genuine!

HA that's crazy! This reminds me of a post about a year ago someone said they were in Macy's looking at watches the saleswoman insisted the guys watch was fake. He said no it's real she said I highly doubt Rolex ever made a watch with a lighting bolt!
