Well they do say that urge to get something loud fast and dangerous is a bit of a giveaway

But the Phantom hides it pretty well..... The Gold Wing is like riding with a neon sign on the back

But as others have said, if I was going on a long trip, I would definitely go for comfort...... So I would get a vintage Mustang Convertable

Seriously though, they both look pretty damn cool

Good point but I was coming at it more in terms of satisfying that mid-life crisis and also being more comfortable than a bike

Clearly, getting a plane or a train is probably more comfortable than both options but it just isn't going to cut it from a mid-life crisis point of view

I'd take the Gold Wing.
It's about riding, not looking cool to the neighbor kids. That wing will go for HUNDREDS of thousands of miles. It's overbuilt and smooth.

I spent almost 2 hours yesterday evening cleaning the Phantom, going over it with a fine-toothed comb, in anticipation of trading it in today when I go to the Honda dealership, but now it looks so darn good, I may not go.

Sheesh working for the VA must pay WAY better than the private sector I am in!!! I am sure you will enjoy either one! I have or HAD way too many friends with bikes in NY that did not survive their encounters with cars or corners so I stay away from bikes. Go get a Shelby Mustang Convertible or a Vette and call it a day! LOL

You are correct. Most motorcyclists on the road have never had any training! Alcohol and/or fatigue usually plays a role in fatalities, as does not paying attention to the surroundings or just being stupid.
BTW, I test road the Gold Wing after work today. I'm keeping the Phantom!

I loved it actually, but it's just too big for me. I got back on my Phantom afterwards and had much more fun riding it! Plus the $25k price tag set me off a bit.
