I don't flip my watches. When I have inquired about it's value in a trade, I am always disappointed and keep the watch remembering the good times that I have had with it. I have only gotten rid of one Rollie, a SS Sub, and I still regret it.

Sounds like a potential profit if I wanted to sell. Of course, 17 years have elapsed since I bought it.

Based on my eBay research (yeah, I know about eBay's problems), the Tudor Chrono that I paid $1100 for in 1996 would probably bring $2500-3000. Again, sounds like I could make a dime or two if I decided to sell.

If you hang on to them for a while before you flip (and keep it in good shape), it's not a money loser.

If you look at it from the economic side ....
Buying a watch 20 years ago for 500 dollar which is worth 2000 dollar now, every 10 years give or take, you double your money by just letting it sit on a bank account so in fact you have earned 1500 dollar, when you invest the money in bonds or whatever with a higher return you should be able to triple or even more.
BUT ... the joy of wearing one for that time is priceless, if you do not ruin it of course And not to forget 500 dollar 20 years ago was probably 2000 dollars worth buying power today ... so decisions decisions
