Assuming that they (Rolex) owns the building to begin with, which is prime retail space in NYC, they either:
A. Don't not need to pay rent if Wempe is simply running the store.
Or
B. Will collect rent in a store that also sells their product.

Sounds like a win, win for Rolex.

Wempe is an AD just like any other and they will pay rent and buy and sell only Rolex watches at that location.

Rolex is not in the retail business.

For those who have any interest, I spoke to Mr. Ruediger Albers on Friday and he pointed that the Wempe Rolex boutique will open mid-February 2012. My thoughts are NYC is going to see some radical changes in the price game for Rolex timepiece both new and on the secondary markets.

I agree, it is clear the Rolex is doing away with smaller AD's in larger areas and going the way of the boutique.

Very true... In NYC our AD's are Wempe, William Bartham, and Tourneau... There are some grey's around, however, the cost is similar to going to an AD so the advantages in terms of savings are very minimal, a few hundred dollars here and there...

Just in time for Valentines Day!

Can you elaborate on your thoughts about these radical changes?

Thanks FS!

Please keep in mind these are just my thoughts and not anything I have gathered from speaking to Rudy. With the Rolex boutiques slowly starting to show up there will be little to no discounts to be had on new models regardless of your relationship with your AD due to the "Rolex Rules" meaning the secondary markets would also be affected in terms of the larger discounts some enjoy because the grey dealers replacement cost will go up. We are all slowly being conditioned to start paying $8k for a desireable SS Rolex timepieces. As we all know cost will continue to rise and those who want to play will pay...

Swing by the RSC upstairs (entrance around the corner on 53rd St) for a taste of superb customer service. No drinks or swag though - like Dallas offers.

Hopefully it will be less "stuck up" when compared to the Tourneau Boutique on 53rd Street. I can't stand the employees there.

Jonathan, I am surprised. The folks at the Tourneau Boutique on Madison are super nice and knowledgeable on the Rolex timepieces offered at their shop. Two of the folks there are personal friends. Perhaps let me know next time you visit and I can guide you on who to speak to...

The new NYC ROLEX BOUTIQUE opening was to be tomorrow, Friday 3/30; There are construction delays.
It will now open next week, hopefully on 4/4!

Are there Rolex fan-boys camped out in tents on the sidewalk to be first inside?

Can someone verify in fact that the store is opening on 4/4? I don't want to run out there from Queens and the store is not yet open.

I did a walk-by earlier today.
They are not opening tomorrow 4/4.
I would say they need at least another week or more before they open the doors.
