Depends what you are fishing for.

For bottom fishing, I like a good spinner (Penn 7500 or 8500 depending on species) with 30 pound braided line with a bimini twist to a barrel swivel into a 15-30 foot leader with a 2/0 Mustad hook (again depending on the target species).

For trolling, I like a conventional TLD 25-30 (depending on species) with 50 pound braid line with a double uni knot into my monofilament top shot. I like a high visibility Momoi 60 pound monofilament. Then a snap swivel to wire leader and double hook rig for ballyhoo or lure of choice.

Oh wait, were you asking about a watch for fishing???? Take what ever you want. Neither will catch you a fish!!!!

Seeing how you're worried about dinging up your watch. I'd take a lanyard, attach it to your watch and belt, then slip the watch in your pocket. I have a nylon zippered, leather pouch for mine when I'm going to be doing rough work. But when the ocean is involved, if you can't dive to the bottom, you better secure your valuable watch.
