I am an audiophile and videophile and used to work in a highend audio and video store. There are many excellent speakers in the market place and some are bargains. May I suggest you purchase the latest The Absolute Sound magazine - they have recently published a "best of" edition or check their website www.theabsolutesound.com which is very informative. The writers and editors of this publication rate speakers by listening to them snd cover all the positives and negatives. Others have posted names of speakers that are excellent, but I would personaly avoid Bose speakers which are highly over-rated.
Good Luck in your hunt!! J. Alan P.S.: My personal speakers at this time are Totem Accoustic speakers, a Canadian manufactured speaker line. Canadian manufactured speakers are world renown - Energy, PSB, Paradigm are all excellent. Sadly, the Sound Dynamic speakers mentioned by a poster are no longer made - they are a fantastic speakers!! An admission - I am Canadian!!! |

I have a love for KEF speakers! Its what I use just now and can highly recomend them. I run mine from Arcam componants and find them fautless. I think with audio, like watches, the selection is ace. So many new and unknown brands with lots to offer.

I have a 22 year old Adcom Amp and Pre Amp; Denon dual CD player (my Adcom CD player died), a cheap Sony turntable replacing my 25 year old Micro Seiki that also died) and 35 year old Polk 10"s. The Polks still sound great and match very well to the Adcoms.
