I agree with you completely and I even corrected the saleslady who took my order for my Submariner and guess what she wrote on the receipt.

"Rolex SS Submariner No-Date 14060M-93150."

Sometimes things become so ingrained that change is impossible, except to those of us who are aficionados.

I hope she didn't confuse or offend the people at Rolex or you might have to wait even longer for that order to come in .The Swiss pride themselves on their accuracy and are very particular with their terminologies. They might all be standing around scratching their heads trying to figure out what she actually ordered for you.

Date-submariners who call their watch Submariners are just Submariner wannabees.

Someday, they'll see the light and be date-free.

NoDate Sub
Sub Date
Unless I say...

Anniversary Submariner released in limited edition to honor the 50th anniversary of the first Submariner--Sub Date.

For all you Date Haters...
Hey why wasn't the LV a No Date? Hmmmmmmmmmmm

That's what I usually say...

I'd say the LV wasn't a made as a Submariner as Rolex didn't want to mess up a piece of art . Better to keep all that gimicky add on stuff to the Submariner Date watches. No need to change a watch that has withstood the test of time for over 50 years more a need to push those add on Date ones,

OR EVEN ROLEX knows that the Iconic Submariner is the Sub Date!

This will be one we will have to agree to disagree on!

I humbly stand corrected. LOOK AT THESE PAGES OF Submariners. NOT A ONE THAT IS with a DATE.

My apologies....

Pages and pages to scroll...One pic for good measure.

so true.

For arguments sake I searched "Rolex Submariner" to see what I would get.
In todays age Rolex sells waaay more Sub/dates than Subs/(no date) and as such I think you will find that in modern times even Rolex advertises it's Submariner as the date version which in turn people accept that the name of that model is "the" Submariner.
Even there website displays the date version as "the" Submariner on the main page with the no date version listed under models and yes just Submariner, but still, it's what people see first. Here are some examples of their ads for the sub date:
http://rolexforums.com/showthread.php?p=330086
Notice it just says Submariner and in the fine print it lists it as the Submariner Date but not in all the ads does it do this. In my opinion the Submariner "Date" is the flag ship Submariner of that model and now seems to be identified with what a Sub is in the public eye. Advertising has a lot to do with the problem because it's much easier to just say Rolex Submariner as opposed to Submariner Date. In any case it's a model we're talking about, and it's name is Submariner, it's feature is a date complication.

Honestly though this seems mega trivial, do you say I have a BMW 335/3 series x-drive sport package with nav and premium leather edition, etc. or do you say I own a 335 and then elaborate if the person cares to know such details about what specifics it has.
So long story short, I think I disagree with you and will continue to call a Submariner date just plain Submariner, much more simple. I have about six people around me who own Subs and when talking or referring to their watch they all just say it's a Sub or Submariner. If it has a cyclops it's obvious what it is, but if it's lacking it then this requires some explaining more so than explaining why it's there, makes sense.....it does to me-similar to explaining why my SD doesn't have a cyclops.

Enjoy your Submariners everyone, and by that I mean your date versions. If you have an 114060 or 14060M enjoy your Sub no date or no date Subs and if you have a vintage...well you'll speak of it using its number reference anyway(5513) so enjoy your "gilt dials and plexis".
But you are technically right....."technically".
