Prolly because the limited 256MB cache overflows and sends a reset to iOS. It also happens on some Apps. I didn't see if the new iPad has a larger cache - the tech specs I found didn't go that deep.

I've had both the iPAD 1 and 2................and no problems. Have the iPHONE 4 and no troubles.
Strange I've never heard of the memory problem.

The crashing problem started to occur ever since the iOX5 software upgrade version..........and in over 6 months now Apple hasn't seen fit to fix it....that is pretty annoying. I will now seriously consider the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. I thought the processor was going to be a quad core on the iPad3 and I also thought that the screen was going to be larger and closer to the edge of the device. The new HD display is pretty cool but overall I'm disappointed, as it doesn't seem to be a huge leap forward over the iPad2.

I feel Apple has lost its mojo unfortunately and if it doesnt start innovating, it will soon become a rotten apple like it did mid 80's to mid 90's. |

Problem was reported quickly and they seem to be doing nothing about it. Those "blanking" geniuses told me the problem doesn't exist. I pointed them to their own website to show them that it did indeed exist. Genius said, "Wow, must be a new problem." Then I showed them (again on their own website) it was NOT new. My flipping iPhone 3GS can handle the web fine, but my iPad 2 can't. If it doesn't get fixed soon, I'm done with Apple. It should be a software change that they blanked up. The rest of the market appears to be catching up to Apple nicely and if they don't offer top product, might as well go with a cheaper option IMHO.

I'm going to download the 5.1 update and see if that solves the issue. I'm guessing no. As for the new iPad, I'm waiting for verification that the unlimited iPad data plan that I have with my 1 can be transferred/grandfathered with AT&T for 4G LTE unlimited data.

www.att.com/ipadlanding edit payment information link...then update the following two fields: IMEI: ICCID: You get this info from the iPad (1 or 2) selct 'Settings' then 'General' then 'About'... The IMEI and ICCID info is on that screen. No need to swap the SIM cards. This process outlined above transfers service instantly and does NOT change the plan type, billing, user info, or days remaining. Basically anytime an ATT customer wants to move a data plan the ATT iPad web page is all you need. No phone call! Hat tip to @MITLAB |

Watches last decades. iPads; couple of years if you're lucky.
