I just sold my Wasp (Vespa) to buy this! I have been itching for another Japanese Four, found this on Ebay for a steal, and figured... why not?

Pic below is from Sunday. Went for a ride with Clive (BMW) and had one
VERY scary moment... and wish I had a GoPro to have recorded it.

5 minutes after this pic was taken, we were tootling along at the speed limit, dead-on 80kmh (55mph). We had been warned earlier that cops were swarming this bit of road, hence our "upright citizen" speed.

I was at "point", leading Clive, who was followed by a Lotus Exige, and behind the Lotus was an R1. The road suddenly widens into two billiard-smooth lanes, so I move over to the slow lane and leave room for the Lotus and R1 who both seemed a lttle more "anxious" than us. Less than 300 yards later, the R1 is going past me like I was stationary, likely doing 160+kph (100mph) and still on the gas, accelerating hard. What he didn't see was the Highway Patrol glued to his arse! HP guy hits sirens/lights just as he passes me, and then all hell brakes loose. R1 guy stood on the brakes!!! In the middle of the freaking road Cop panic stops, and locks all 4 wheels - ABS kicked in, but he got all squirrely, and came to a stop straddling both lanes just about on top of the R1. I'm still doing 80, so I get on the braakes and swing wide, with Clive panick stopping up my arse as well, and THEN cop throws open his door and leaps out before his car has even stopped! So now I have an open door and a cop "reaching". Anyway, my adrenalin is pumping, and I panicked for a moment, somehow thinking he was going to wave me down as well, but he was fixated on the R1. He just about lept over the bonnet to get to the guy. By this time, I'm past and not looking back.

I feel a it sorry for the R1. He just gave it a "small squirt", but I reckon the cop was as angry as hell. 20 minutes later, we stopped at the "Pie-in-the-Sky" cafe at the top of the mountain, had a cup of tea, and waited, but never did see the R1 again

The blue and white one is a Randy Mamola Boxer cup replica and the larger one is a 1200 GS Adventure - just the thing for exploring the highlands of Scotland.....

Leasky - I love that R12Adv. Just sat on one at the dealer this weekend...awesome machine. Do you have any trouble with it? I would probably never ride it to its fullest potential (offroad), but would love to tour on one. There is something about them that I can't help but lust after, not sure what it is...I've always been hesitant because there are people that swear by them and those that swear at them...

Hello John and thank you for your comments. I have had the bike for almost 2 years and it has never missed a beat. I ride it in all weathers and do a little off roading with it also. There is a very good website called UKGSER, which is full of all the info you could ever wish for - both good and bad.

The bike is actually very easy to ride and has great road presence; I would certainly recommend that you go back to the dealer and take one for a ride.

Wish I had room for a third...Tuono and Harley sitting in the garage. Of course the HD is in the shop for, of all things, an oil leak. lol...oh the crap I caught from my riding mates.

Yes, Clare really enjoys riding pillion, although the standard seats are not great after about 100 miles; so I would certainly look for a Corbin seat or similar if you do take the plunge and decide to do some serious miles.

There is a new Triumph coming out later this month and I hear that it is going to give the BMW Adventure a run for it's money.

It seems no matter what bike you buy, the seat is usually replaced. Kept my stock seat on the Tuono, though...Rode that thing to Indy for the MotoGP 2 years ago...that's a 670 mile ride in one day...plenty for a Tuono. lol...ahhh the idiocy of youth. This year I'm road-couching it on the harley.

Thanks for the tip on the Triumph...another mfg I've always liked. Good enough for S. McQueen, good enough for me! :)

2002 Honda Gold Wing. I think it is interesting that it still has the original battery in it. Was going to replace the battery this spring but it started right up after sitting all winter so guess I'll stick with it a while.

Yeah, something how they leave stains on my garage floor. Sorry - I'm feeling temporarily disenchanted as my 2200 mile-old Street Glide is at the dealer getting an inner-primary seal replaced.

I rode Harleys for almost 30 years and just got tired of them. They're a dime a dozen and they all look alike to me. My current ride is a 2009 Boss Hoss with a 350 Chevy V8 and 385 hp. It's my second Boss Hoss and I could never go back to a Harley or anything else again.

Nice BSA. Don't see many like that.
Loved the dirt. Had to sell this last year because my back just couldn't take riding off road anymore.
Strictly street now, though I still get nostalgic when I see a trail.
