I actually have all three of your options. Here is my opinion.
I wear the sub 116610LN 90% of the time. It is far and away the most versatile of the three. The Explorer II is quite nice as well and would be a close second. However, I would recommend on of the new versions with the updated features. I wear my DJ very rarely. My life requires minimal suit time but the sub looks as good as the DJ IMHO. The DJ looks out of place in the woods and on the slopes when I am out playing.

Thanks everyone for their kind input, it's been great to get people's thoughts. I definately think I won't rush things and take my time visiting the AD's a few times before I am happy.
My thoughts so far reading all your comments are that in an ideal world, and I was as lucky of some of you posters here, I'd have the datejust for work and either (or both!) of the sport models for weekend downtime. Having read all your comments I think I still want to see the subdate in the flesh before commiting to one. Rolex dealer seemed to say that price increases (in the UK) is imminent. So has anyone any thoughts on discounts on either of the models at this time of year? |

I faced a similar situation some years ago. I had a nice and reliable Omega SMP and I wanted a new Rolex watch. I bought a SS DJ, and after two years I sold it and bought a SS GMT IIc. The functional criteria prevailed in my decision. The DJ didn't provide any additional function over the SMP, something that the GMT could give me. I have been very happy since then.

Mario has given great advice and defined all three models in a very real way. You gotta try them all on. Then wait a couple days. Read TRF for great threads and info. Then get the one you just can't stop thinking about! That would be the one for you! Be warned---if you spend anytime on TRF this will be just the beginning of your love affair with Rolex!
