I will never sell my beloved 5500 AirKing. Hell of a story behind it reaching as far as the Rolex archives in Geneve.

I've decided the AK and the GMT Master are my keepers

I will unload most of my watches when I retire in 20 years. When I hit 67 years old I will probably be ok with just one or two nice watches.

I am really enjoying the exercise of researching, then acquiring and holding nice watches... This is my current hobby. which according to some predictions will yield a 8.3% annual return...!

Interesting post & tough question.

For me it would be my 16570 Explorer II. That one has been through thick & thin with me. Plus, I wore it for a number of life milestones (wedding, birth of my daughter, etc...). Would love for my daughter to someday take a liking to it so I could pass it on to her.

Close behind would be my 16710 GMT Master II & 16610 Sub LV. Both of those are keepers and would be really tough to let go.

On the bubble would be my Speedy Pro and my GMT Master IIC. I love both of those watches and wear them all the time. I just don't have the same personal connection with them (yet...).

I am sure I will cull the herd at some point.

BTW - I do admire the "one watch" post by the TRFer with the 216570 Exp II. I can appreciate the "one watch" approach & philosophy. Probably makes things a lot simpler too!

When I purchased my first Rolex years ago (gmt root beer ) I planned at the time to never sell it.... I didn't I lost it instead (long story) so this year I actually got myself what I though was my grail...that very same rootbeer model...guess what, sold it three weeks after.

It wasn't the same watch, I realised it was the memory that the watch evoked which was more important and a replacement was just that a replacement not the original. So moral of the story is...if you think you'll never sell one of your watches take damn good care of it, cos there is likely only one of them in the world which is special enough.

The 'easy upgrade' is over!

I will say this; the easy upgrade due to wanting a 'larger, cooler, or a more legible watch is over for the most part(w/the exception of the daytona)
The new watches being dished out by many manufacturers are as big as my wrist will handle - many too big!(give Rolex credit on this one as they have not exceeded imo)
My selling of the 36-40mm's and 'upgrading' to the new 41-47mm modern watches has taken its course...
Manufacturers better give me some good JUSTIFICATION for buying a new watch - i.e. innovative movements like the Omega 9300(not just a bigger case with the same/similiar movement. I'm also looking for special materials, like ceramics etc...that wont scratch, even a furthering of the antireflective properties of the sapphire glass - which some manufacturers ignore.
Bottom line is you want my money, give me Innovation- not just a bigger rehash of a old watch.

I think I am very lucky that I got a small wrist. Any watch more than 42mm is just too big for me. I do think even conservative manufacturer like PP and Rolex will increase the case size of models such as Daytona or Submariner. Recent example includes both the Explorer 1 and 2. I had really trim down my collection and find it more and more difficult to let go any of my watches.
Thanks for those fellow members who tried to promote me but I do think I belong to the middle class as I have a very long wish list and it is hard negotiation with my better half every time I made another watch purchase. Those above middle class don't have a wish list. They just get whatever takes their fancy and their better half don't moan!

My 116610 SubC is my only true keeper, I prebooked it when it was released at basel and got a V-Serial, I plan to give it to my son and I had it on when he was born...

Other watches come and go...

Everything is for sale at the right price. I don't own any vintage pieces. They are all easily replaced

My first Rolex was a 6694 with boxes and papers that I bought in 1999. I got married in it. Likely will never sell.

I also have a red Sub with a great story. Probably wont sell it either.

Everything else could be sold. Everything else I have can be replaced. For instance, just replaced a ss Daytona that I regretted selling, as well as a Panerai Radiomir.

In no rush to sell, but they can all go for the right price. The only one I would never have sold is an old gold plated seiko lassale my wife bought me 30 years ago. I lost it 3 years ago and have been looking for the same model ever since.

my small collection a blue TT Sub C, Hulk, SS SubC, GMT IIC, GMT IIC TT is quite compleat for me. If my taste changes or I had to liqudate I think the SS Sub C would be the last to go.
