Insure and lovingly place on the bedside table. Sure the entire collection is exposed, but I get to enjoy them each and every day. If something bad happens, I get to go buy new watches. Life is too short.

Forgive me, but it sounds like your local banker is telling you a tale to keep your business in his branch. I'd get on the phone a call a few other branches and tell them your predicament.

Why keep watches in a safe deposit box? Just insure them and keep them in the house.

These Sack-Ups are great for storing watches in safety deposit boxes (though I only have experience with 5x5 boxes). They supposedly wick moisture away from the watch, but I still put a bag of desiccant in the box with them...

Better to risk someone stealing it from a bank box than breaking into your home and possibly hurting your family, IMO. Even with a top notch alarm system in my house, an industrial safe bolted to the floor, and the police department 1/2 a mile down the road, I still won't take that kind of risk... |

Guess I will use some microfiber towels to wrap my wathces.
Sounds like it, doesn't it? I called other banks and they are running the same promotion as well. |

Perhaps if you don't own a high price/demand collection--for me not in this lifetime!!! Better in the bank safe than sorry!!

Seriously. Around $100 a year for a 5x5x11 box is nothing in the scheme of things. If any of my local branches had bigger boxes available I would gladly pay more to be able to put them in the box on winders...

I know a builder that installed a "safe room' in the basement,,you would NEVER know it'e there,,he has so very clever designs..But I do agree with Ken,,some timepieces are really hard to replace..sentimental..ect.

As to the original question, all great ideas. I use a couple of leather watch rolls, and in some cases Veraet watch wipes. |

Of course they are.
They are of no use in the hands of some scumbag burglar. If a home safe were practical, I'd have one, but as it is, the bank is the perfect place for my watches to rest up for the next challenge.

I have an industrial home safe (fire/burglary proof) bolted to the floor (not that it is going anywhere at almost 500 lbs; three muscle bound men couldn't budge it and needed special equipment to move it!), but that won't prevent someone from hurting or killing you or a loved one to get the combination if they invade your home. Certain pieces are a dime a dozen, and I don't mind storing them in the safe and if worse comes to worse a robber may feel generous for the score and leave peaceably. Others are more rare, and not so easily replaced, so I keep them at the bank.

This poor family's tradgedy near my area convinced me to take over-the-top precautions in my house...
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chesh...vasion_murders I have several alert systems built into my house (including in the safe). |
