... but it feels right to me. I purposefully sought out an earlier (2001) solid link bracelet Day-Date which still came in the older green leather/suede box and had the cool hologram papers. I can't stand the newer style "crinkle" top box and "credit card" style pedigree card. It may be 11 years old (sold new 11-02) but it is like new

You are correct Mike.

But consider that (unless you have a special Rolex that is highly sought after) it is a buyers market and given the choice between two similar condition/year Rolex watches one with the full package and one with watch only there is no doubt as to which one would sell first.

I hate to say it, but until I started getting more into watches I just threw the boxes away....I have a really nice display case where the watches are kept.....Now I know to keep them although I still buy without them, no problem.....I recently bought an AP 15300 from Davidsw, it didn't bother me at all that it didn't come with the box or any papers.....

Never ever rely on these so called papers which in the real world is just a two year warranty paper/card only, to prove authenticity of any watch .As today boxes and these so called papers are the easiest to fake with today's technology.So if not bought from a reliable source these so called papers could be fake much like the many dodgy watches.Myself not a bit interested in a outdated warranty paper or packaging box myself always buy condition of watch that the most important.And if no service history a RSC service after I will have service papers with all the watch details and that bit of paper will be a full two year current valid warranty .

I don't want to purchase a Rolex and then find out by sending it to RSC that is has been stolen... If there is a carfax-type databse for Rolexs that one can search before making a purchase on an used Rolex...

sometimes I will keep the box if I may want to flip but I have lost many a box with no problems trading in or selling . Guess I could always buy another box if needed..
