Any concern that a gold ring and a ss watch don't go together?

I had a white gold signet ring, which I designed, with my family crest on it, but I never wore it, so it's gone now.
BTW, just in case people aren't aware; the reason they traditionally have family crests or coats of arms, and are often worn on the little finger, is that they were used as a 'signature' to stamp into the wax seal on a letter or envelope. Authentication. It was more practical to roll the hand over only a little in order to make the impression in the hot wax, rather than one of the more central fingers. Less chance of getting burned! Cheers, K. |

Aside from anything plenty people wear TT watches... Ie gold and steal on the same item. Douglas. The "standard" Douglas crest used on all the touristy stuff is a salamander in flames but there are dozens for different branches of the family. Quote:

Interesting, what does your ....thrush? On an oak? Denote? How do the Douglas clan keep track of the branches? My own name is Hamilton, an interesting fact, my own clan chief, his grace the 16th duke of Hamilton, Alexander Douglas-Hamilton, is heir to the vacant title chief of clan Douglas. My own clan badge also has an oak tree |

...THRUSH!?! It's a bloody falcon!!!
I'm not sure what he's all about but the sprouting oak stump is all about regrowth and new beginnings. To claim the right to be chieftain of the clan Douglas the Lord Lyon would require him to drop the double-barrelled name so I guess he'd forfeit his chieftainship of the Hamiltons... I don't really know how it all works since there's also a Douglas connection to the duke of bucchleuch but his family name is Scott and I know the Earl of Morton's surname is Douglas but he's not eligible to be chief... I'll try to ask him if i remember since I know him through polo (he still plays and he's in his eighties!). Mind you, if there's any blue-blood in my pedigree it must have come from His Graces great-great-great grandfather swiving the serving wench! I'm a hideous mix of Armstrong, Chisholm, Kinnaird and god knows what else! The only thing all of those clans had in common was that they were all reputed to be psycho's!

Falcon? Sorry about that, I almost said a Robin cause of the wee patch on his breast, but I thought the shape was a thrush.
Correct he would have to drop the Hamilton. I probably am in the same position as you pedigree wise, although my own family has lived around Hamilton town for the last couple of hundred years, both my parents in their 70s are still there. |

One of the things I love about it is that it was made in and bears the hallmark for Edinburgh so that makes it just a little bit more special in my eyes.

Rodentman... I reckon they should call you "magpie man", that's some serious bling!
You've got to get a barked DD to go with the diamond ring!

The crowned heart is that of King Robert the Bruce. He was unable to go on crusade before he died but one of his Generals, James"The Black" Douglas, took his embalmed heart on crusade. The story goes that when he was ambushed and knew he was done for he threw Bruces heart at the enemy as he charged shouting "lead on Brave-Heart". I don't know if it's true or not but it's a cool story.
