Another pic for reference. My now sold stainless steel 116264 with white gold bezel. That wg really looks different than ss to me.

Your point is valid and completely makes sense. However, I then pose this question for you:
Are you buying the watch for yourself or for how others will perceive you? On the flip side to what you posted, part of the beauty of getting a platinum or white gold Rolex is that nobody knows it's a precious metal. (with exception to WIS of course) |

Wearing gold and platinum is a personal preference. As stated previously, the weight is definately noticeable, as is the fact that it makes you better looking.
I personnally love precious metal watches, but that preference obviously comes at a price. To each his own. |

Nobody notice when I wear this as a precious one. But really like the weight in my wrist. I may flip it to YG once I retired from office. |

I do not own a Rolex. Yet. I've read that the SS bands contain a small portion of Nickel. Because of an allergy I have to Nickel - Platinum/White Gold may be my only option.

Rolex uses 904L steel, which is supposedly better than surgical steel and is hypoallergenic.
If you are familiar with Rolex, you can still tell from the bracelet and the dials whether the watch is in white gold/platinium. Only solid gold for the President bracelet... I don't think they make the Oyster bracelet in white gold for the DateJust, only in Rose and Yellow Gold. Just the professional models have white gold bracelets but you can tell the difference with the dials. Platinum comes with ice blue dials. |

White gold might have nickel in it too. I'm not sure what the Rolex 18k WG alloy contains, but I believe it is not rhodium plated like most WG. |

SS is great for a first or second Rolex watch. As time goes on you may tend to appreciate the precious metals more and aspire to work hard and save to be able to afford one. If you can afford one now but prefer SS that is great too. I would love to have a platinum DayDate!

To each their own.
What's important to me is the personal enjoyment I get from wearing a particular watch. For example I enjoy knowing I have a well constructed, nicely finished movement in my watch. For a similar reason I would enjoy knowing my watch is made from a precious metal such as platinum or white gold. The fact that others may have no idea what what I'm wearing, and what material it's made of, is irrelevant. I don't wear watches for others to enjoy, but rather for my own enjoyment. |

I prefer the silver look IMO than gold or rose gold look.
I also buy for my enjoyment not others opinions. I buy white gold & platinum jewellery, and when I can afford it, I would love a platinum/white gold rolex. I know what it is and that's all that matters. I do like it a little bit when others think its plain silver. Each to their own as all the different models/materials but for me if I could then I'd go for the plat/wg model.

LISTEN TO ME...
PLEASE go to an AD and try a WG or PLT watch on for yourself, the weight is the first thing you will feel as a difference to SS.. Secondly gold be it yellow rose or white, has a certain luster to it and "feel".. Its a much brighter, reflective alloy than SS.. PLEASE go and try a WG watch at your AD. Then, you may understand the difference. I could never justify it, but since I tried one, boy they are the holy grails for me!!

Platinum is so bright, the WG numerals & hands on my PL DD always look bronze in comparison to the rest of the watch

There is a difference, but I'm not sure if it has a lot to do with the PCL's or that by looking at the dial gives it away, none the less the difference IMHO isn't really significant.....nice collection btw
