Classic datejust is probably the most versatile model in the Rolex range.

Yes, it is. I know several folks who only own a DJ and wear it daily.

At my size, 6'3" and 290lbs, I've seriously considered the DJII. But I really want to stick with a classic for my first new Rolex. The DJII is really going to have to sing to me.

Was also concerned about the dressiness of the
TT DJ esp. living in a town where most-from
the governor("Governor Blue Jeans")down-tend
to dress casually.

That’s one reason why I like the tuxedo dial-although
the word tuxedo suggests ultimate dressiness, IMO it has
the effect of actually toning it down(the dressiness)
and it’s also kind of retro looking-which I like.

I've seen it on people at all levels of dress, and it always looks great, so don't hesitate if you like the look.

Glad this came up. I have been looking at getting another Rolex, and the TT DJ is on the list for consideration, but I wasn't sure. I am a younger guy...well, almost 30, but dress pretty casual most of the time.

I love the DJ 36mm. Looks lovely in the rose gold two tone!

Worn one daily since 07/1976, it is & continues to be an icon in the Rolex family.

The more I think about it, if you have one that is dressed out with diamonds, a lot of gold, etc. then it would looks strictly like a dress watch. Most, could probably be passed off as either.

We're about the same age-I can relate. I keep second guessing the Datejust: to small for me, not enough presence, an old man watch. But I keep coming back to its simple beauty and how it all works together on so many levels. I go to the AD tomorrow and the first watch I'm looking at is the Datejust.

Every Rolex is great for everyday wear. Some may be better but that just creates an excuse to buy more watches. Some may be better for dress and that also creates another excuse.

I wear my day date, a traditionally dressy watch, everyday including jeans and whatnot, and it does just fine. A TT dj will be sweet too.

Go for it!

Honestly, I like it for those reasons and think it will be more comfortable because it is smaller. As for the size, I think I can get used to it. Sure it is not a trendy 45mm watch, but we don't buy them because they are trendy, we buy them because they were nice 20 years ago and will be nice 20 years from now. I'm 6'3" 265, and find heavy, large, watches uncomfortable everyday.

It may take a day or two to get used to the smaller size, but if you need more proof, check out other guys that wear them (tony soprano) and they look just fine, even on big guys.

I've never agreed with a post on TRF more than this one. Well said.

Absolutely. I wear a suit Monday thru Friday and my DJ works fine. The oyster and smooth bezel make it casual enough to wear with jeans. I will be wearing it with a t shirt and flp flops next week. Bet it works fine for that too.

I dress like a hobo and wear a TT DJ, you can definitely pull it off with every outfit!
