In love wth my GMT Master IIC but worried i'm putting too much wear on it

Wear it my friend. Make some memories, my Rolex is new so I don't have many nicks on it (yet), but my Omega's have been lovingly worn all over the globe and each scratch or nick has a story behind it, that is what give them their charm. Unless you bought it to resell, wear it in good health!

I'm in the same boat as you man. In fact we're almost the same age. I got my first Rolex last year also and I went with the Submariner Date model. I do everything with it and honestly it goes great with a suit (which I also wear to work daily). I also scuba dive with it, out on the town dressed casual--just about everything except things that would obviously put undue wear on the watch. I've found daily worn SS Rolexes with polished center links end up looking like crap prematurely and I think this is what you're seeing. If you're going to wear the watch every day and you don't want to be overly careful to not put scratches on the watch, i'd reccomend a watch like a Sub that has a brushed finish.

A friend of mine pointed it all out with a simple statement: Rolex's are made to be worn and used. He's right! And while variety is great, IMHO a GMT IIc looks great with a suit, too. Enjoy that one, you'll have to try a lot harder to put too much wear on it or acutally hurt it. They're as tough as they are good lookin'.

looks like you got a pretty unanimous opinion on this one but i'll chip in anyway. where it and enjoy. those scratches and scuffs are part of what will make that watch you.

You've seen what most folk are saying - here's a SS GMT that has seen 40 years daily wear - AND it's been roughed up a lot. It has also been looked after - cleaned and serviced regularly. If you think it looks knackered, then keep yours in the box; if you think it looks half ok then get yours out of the box and give it a life!!

that's a fine looking timepiece you have there,it should last another 40 years.

Incidentally, I don't think you need a second rolex to wear under suits. I picked out the GMTc as a watch to wear with everything. While certain style purists still discourage it, it's absolutely accepted to wear a sports watch with business dress.

I wear my GMT II C with Tuxedo, suits, and sweats. No one ever notices my watch. If you love it, wear it. Don't worry about damaging it, Rolex is very hardy in normal use.

For HEAVY use, get a "beater" (bad term for an especially hardy watch that doesn't cost as much to replace as your Rolex, and generally some absolutely terrific watches). Mine are a Marathon CSAR and a Ball COSC Diver. But the Rolex is my daily wear watch. Why not let it be yours?

By the way, I got my first Rolex, also a GMT Master and wore it daily from 1977 until 2004, when I traded it in because I wanted better lume. Now as of 2007 I have another GMT Master, wear it daily, and I expect it to wear it for at least another 25 years, at which point it will likely be my kids' to trade in.....

Welcome to TRF!

I know the first scratch is the toughest one to accept, but inevitably scratches will happen. RSC will remove those scratches during service, so just enjoy your GMT IIc.

I would second Dan's suggestion getting a DJ as a second "dress" Rolex. What about this one?

I am new here and this is my first post. Just picked up my first Rolex on the 28th. (GMT IIC). Yes, the first scratch is always the toughest. I got my first scratch on the shiny center part of the link after 2 hours of wear. But I expect I will get plenty more!

This watch & bracelet will outwear you many times over. When you send it for a service it will come back like new, so wear and enjoy it.

I called Swiss Luxury and asked them how much they d give me for my new GMT ll ceramic watch and they said $5,700 cash. I paid with shipping $5,405

I looked at it and decided I couldnt part with it..

So, here it is.

In a way, it appeals to me more then the YG DD.

I have a great looking Thunderbird that I've worn nearly every day since 1982.......wear your watch. I polish mine occasionally, clean it with soap and water every few days. I've had it serviced twice.
