Oh Lord! Watches are a thing you mess around with when you have nothing better to do with your money. This doesn't seem to be the case with you.

Exactly. It sounds like you're not really in a position to make this purchase at this time. 0 or near 0% can be great, and I've certainly used it, but not on anything that I couldn't write a check for tomorrow without a second thought. Maybe you're not really explaining your situation clearly, but having to potentially take a bank loan out as you mentioned above is a good indication that you are stretching too far. I don't mix my play money and my investment assets. If I had to sell investments to cover a debt, something would have to have gone horribly wrong.

Eek! Cashing in on your investment money to buy a luxury watch with monthly payments is bold.

Anyways, buy the watch you would love to wear.

If you get 0% for list instead of getting grey market cash bnib
You'd be paying 28k vs 24k
4k is your interest practically speaking

You're paying interest. Semantics aside

Don't buy anything

Sorry.

No sense in cashing in investments that are making money when you can get 0% interest on financing.
Same as saving for except he can enjoy it while putting away money for it.
I get it

On both watches you will take a up front depreciation hit from retail. If you're
willing to source either secondhand or gray market you may end up saving
more than the value of the 0% financing, so take the money from your trust
and buy lightly used. That way, if the market tanks and you're trust goes in the
toilet you can feel extra awesome about using some of it for something worthwhile.

I wouldn't buy a watch if I don't have the cash.

But in between those two watches, hands down the 5711.

Good luck and all the best!

This is strangely ironic, the funds we are talking about are called "watch fund" on my account. I started it as a savings account and was advised that an ISA tracker would grow faster by my FA. When I had saved enough I was advised to leave it there getting interest for me and buy 0% as I can always draw the cash if needed. I have never managed a discount for cash, I have tried. This advise has served me well as it has happened several times so far and now have several nice pieces and I got a good pot of cash to boot. I pay monthly into the tracker and can afford to write this off which is why it is in a high risk fund. Problem is this fund is growing faster than the low interest I can get on a loan.

Buy a new daytona now at £7800 and tomorrow you'll be lucky to get £6000 - daytona is a steel mass produced chronograph hardly a collectible same with the intro pp5711 be ready to lose heavily - telling you straight so don't buy on hope of getting you're money back short term - rarity equals demand equals high price - both these watches do not fit into this category - sorry its the way it is.

If "redundancy" is Brit-speak for bankruptcy, then keep saving. I would get on that airplane that PSV recommends if I knew where it was going!

If you don't see watches as an investment, why are you obsessing over the resale value of the PP ??

If you haven't got the cash at hand--DON'T purchase. Even with 0%. You have then put yourself into a position of no bargaining power! Scout around a bit and you'll find an AD that will discount some when you save up the cash. Then you're money in the bank so to speak. Why not put the word out to one of the trusted sellers on the forum as to what you want once you've decided. If they can find what you're after, you'll likely save a fair bit of $$$$. Just a suggestion. Good luck.

redundancy means to lose your job not thru your own fault

eg, your employer folds or gets bought out or if your job is outsourced

depending on your age and length of service or employers terms and conditions redundancy is usually accompanied by a last payment, which is tax free, the legal minimum for this is (something like) 1 week for every year worked, but many companies pay 2 weeks or even a month

so if someone was made redundant after 10 years of employment with the same company the legal minimum they would get is 10 weeks tax free pay

I see what you're trying to do OP, but stop reading too much into it. Buy the watch and enjoy.

If u think you can handle the finance, buy it.

Life is too short to buy with cash on hand. You never know what will happen tomorrow. Enjoy with eyes wide opened.

I see watches as a necessity, especially PP and rolexes.

I agree with part of that but coming up short on your "watch payment" is mighty embarrassing

happy the OP has his direction and decision

re all the finance comments, jmho finance is ok to get what you really want, unless you feel the need for another expensive financed watch before you've paid the first one off.... (same true of cars/bikes/etc etc)

unless you are enamored with having a NIB never worn watch, why not buy a nice pre owned from a legitimate source and save some $$. It will be used as soon as you put it on anyway :-) I just purchased an F series YG Daytona on strap with full B & P and with a light detail it looks new at a huge discount from new!
Good luck with the purchase. M
