Again thanks for all the opinions, but I have an opportunity to buy an SEL and Luminova Exp II from a trusted TRF seller for $500 over and above my current T serial.

That change any opinions? Because I decided to do it.

Yes. If the goal is a watch with SEL and ability to see it at night and that's the only difference I would do it as well. It is a modern watch after all. IMO a tritium based Rolex should be one with a matte dial.

Although I love the tritium dialed Exp II, I just got the SEL/luminova model today. I managed to pick up a late A serial 16570 in near mint shape for a trusted forum member. It cost me $600 over and above my T serial, which I sold today. To me, it is worth the upgrade.

The solid SEL and the insanely bright markers win the day. $1500 might not be worth it, but $600 is!

I mean, what's not to love??:

Best $600 I have ever spent. At 5:30 this morning the hands and markers were still glowing, and had not seen any light since 8:30 pm. Was able to tell that it was 5:30. How handy!

I sent the watch of to Rikki for a full service. I spoke to him on the phone several times, and let me tell you he is one hell of a nice guy. I was planning on picking it up in person on an upcoming trip to Lakeland FL but the trip is being postponed so I am just going to have it shipped. I may swing by Seminole when I do get to FL and say hi to him. Will post details on the overhaul when I get it back next week.
