I buy the watches, my wife tells me which one she wants to wear for the week and I adjust the bracelet...my son? Well, he is only two...but I will let him wear my watches when he turns 21.

My wife hasn't asked, but if she did, I'd let her wear whatever she wanted. I bought her a new TT mid-size YM, which she loves and wears every day. I think it would have been nice to let her wear one of yours.

All that's mine, is my wife and kids' too. My wife can wear my watches whenever she wants and my kids get to wear them on special occasions. I've taught my boys how to take care of them.

Tough call. My father bought my two sisters new DJs three years ago.
Sometimes it's hard to tell they have PCLs. They definately enjoy them but we are happy they don't borrow my watches. |

My wife has been wearing my Sub on and off for 15 years. I don't think/operate like you...

My wife knows better than to ask me to wear one of my watches. I've spent the last year or so trying to convince her to upgrade her Rado, but she just doesn't like any Rolex ladies' models. I think she needs a 37mm Royal Oak!

I trade back and forth with my old man.
I even gave him my WG DD2. I bought myself a DJ2 to replace it. I also gave a good buddy my Explorer. I love my watches, but they are just material objects. That said, I kind of love your post and think you are a badass. A bit over the top? Yes. But can surely respect and appreciate where your coming from. I quite enjoyed your post.

My wife hasn't much interest, she has a nice ladies' DJ, wears it when and where she wants, but no interest in mine. If she asked, I would not be so harsh, why not spread the joy? After all, you don't really own it, you're just passing on to the next generation ;)

guys, maybe rolexdivers meant it's a vintage sub, a rare collectable one. if it were a 5512 mcqueen, or milsub. i wouldn't want anyone touch it(figuratively speaking).
if it's a modern sub, i don't see any difficuties replacing it should it be necessary, which is a longshot anyhow seeing how durable a rolex is. |

100% agree with OP. The wife's watches are hers and mine are mine. She can't just pick and choose my things that she wants. I won't do this to her either.

It's just a watch. If they trash it accidentally, life goes on.
Priorities and perspective.

Let them wear it. If you let your wife share in the hobby, she will be inclined to be in favor of you expanding your collection.
They may just see this as a way to connect more with you by sharing in your hobby. |

Man o man, if I would say "NO you can't wear a watch of mine"... I'd be in deep, way more than knee deep!
Now my wife has her own Submariner, but if she would ask me to morrow one of mine, no problem. It's my wife. I'd give her both my kidneys if I had to. Not letting her touch your watch.... Hmm....

My oldest daughter has been wearing my Datejust for two years. My spouse occasionally wears my black 16613 or my Daytona (before I flipped it) and my middle daughter is currently borrowing my Tudor Tiger. Watches are meant to be worn, and who better to wear them than my family.

I have heard that refusing a wife's request, can cause her to get a really bad headache. What say you, my friend?

I've offered for my wife to wear my 36 mm DJ when hers was in for service, she declined. I offered my son one of my old Tag Divers, he did not want it. Watches are meant to be worn.

I would let her wear it. Then you have an excuse to buy another one, like you really need it.

It's just a watch. She's your wife, presumably the mother of your daughter you mentioned. I don't see why you wouldn't.

My theory is I try to live a life of love, if I am getting to attached to material items then they go to go. I love my watches, but family and loving others come first for me. I wouldn't let some stranger wear my watch, but anyone close to me that I love and trust, sure, who cares, it's all just $ anyways and we can't take it with us

Misplayed..IMHO.
You were going to get her, her own Sub anyway if she wanted it. Worst that could happen is she damages your Sub..you get another one to replace; and perhaps a second watch for "pain and suffering". ;>) |

I have had girlfriends ask to borrow my watches and i've said no just because I dont think they will take as good of care of them as I do... I think they will get careless scratches.... Having said that I would let her wear my watch to dinner and stuff like that.
I think if I had a wife she could borrow whatever she pleased.
