Totally agreed. I have some watches in my collection that most well informed forum members will thumb their noses at. But who cares, I buy what I like. If I buy what others like or what is deem popular and not actually enjoy the watch in the end, it is not going to bring me any joy and a waste of money.

The easiest watch to sell will generally be the Sub since it's arguably the most iconic Rolex out there with over 60 years of history and brand/model awareness behind it. So if you are perhaps struggling to afford your Rolex and you may need to sell in a hurry if your financial circumstances change but you HAVE to have a Rolex now....then a Sub would be the sensible option.

The YM will inevitably have a more limited demand and this is evidenced by sales figures and will in more likelihood take longer to sell on the pre-owned market all things being equal......

Most people on this forum buy what they like and I absolutely agree with them, but perhaps these same members also don't need to think as much about resale or the time it may take to sell.....

"Horses for courses" as they say...... So financial considerations apart..... ALWAYS buy what you like and do not let anyone else's opinion deter to from that approach.......
Thanks my friend...

Does this mean you're buying what you want because it is what you like and not because it is popular? I sure hope so. Happy hunting!

Dont decide what you like based on internet pictures or popular opinions. Rather, try the watch on your wrist first and you will figure out which one you really want, its better to find a keeper once and for all than keep flipping to find one.

Dan's advice sums it up best.
If you're worried about possibly losing $$, just do some research to see what they're selling for pre loved.
Buy at a competitive price and enjoy your choice without looking back.

Don't worry about which one is more popular. It should not be a popularity contest. Get the watch that you like and want. Not what others do...

Some are really torn between two watches they are looking at and decisions are not always easy…I get that. What makes the situation worse is when you bring the difficult decision to TRF.

It's nice that the TRF community can help provide input into a decision, but as others have already stated, you are the one who has to live with the decision.

Get the one you like most "for now"…because as many of us know, there will always be another purchase.

Often times you will read, especially on "what do you think I should buy?" type of threads, "buy what makes you smile the most"…..and is absolutely true. Its YOUR money, these watches do not cost $29.99…and is important that you are happy with your purchase…so..when you put your watch on in the morning, or take it off at the end of your day, does it give you joy? If yes, then you bought the right one. ;-D

116613 is a solid and safer bid. If you like YM then it's the better watch I personally find it stunning. Resale value is better for 116613 hands down. You need to know that plat is a very soft easy to damage metal

I can't see a comparison where stainless steel or gold is harder than Platinum.

Do you have this info?

IMO if you damage your Stainless/Pt YM then you would also have damaged your stainless steel/gold Submariner Date.

Some people like to follow the crowd and others like to go against the tide. There is nothing wrong with either choice. Buying a Rolex is not a simple decision and don't rush into it. For some it may takes months or years of trying on watches and contemplation before purchasing that special watch. Others will buy one on impulse and realize they don't like it and sell it at a loss.

The Sub is a very popular model and a Rolex icon for a reason.

Stainless is more scratch resistant. However, platinum is more dense. When platinum is scratched it merely displaces the metal instead of losing it.

If you were gonna buy a gift for someone who isn't really watch person, it's safe to get something popular. But for yourself stick with what you like. It's your wrist. Get a tool watch not a tool's watch...

The question is there are a difference between believe there may be popular and they really like.
Once I happened to buy a Panerai and consulting in the forum by a large majority advised me a model of this brand but almost a year later, I wanted to sell and cost me a lot and lost a lot of money aside. That's why I'd bring clarify this issue.
It is a matter of taste but I think aesthetically the YM SS and blue is more elegant than the Sub 116613 LB.
What happens is that it is also very nice to own a watch that is popular and desirable ...
Are saying?

HAPPY THANKSGIVING FOR ALL OF YOU FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

agree!!!!

I didn't know that..could one not argue that is the same with all metals?

I would agree that buffing removes metal, but scratching (dependent on the severity and nature of the scratch) would not.

I buy the watches I like and I don't really care if people tell me that my watches are intended for middle age men.

I think buying and wearing a Rolex is something special. The owner shouldn't have it just because it is popular with the rest of the crowd.

To some degree, Yes...depending on the severity.
