In my humble opinion, the 16600 is the best watch Rolex ever made. If you can find one in mint condition, grab it, enjoy it and you will never ever regret it.

The 16600 is a great watch and I wouldn't hesitate picking one up. I'm currently itching like crazy to buy something...probably not a Rolex though and I've chosen to wait for Basel. What's another few weeks?

Don't be surprised when they come out with the new ceramic SD at Basel this year but it won't be 42mm it will be 40mm.

I don't disagree and would love to see a new SD but wouldn't that water down the diver range and only move sales of one model onto the next? |

Yeah from a buyers POV it's a get idea and bet it would be an awesome piece but from a business POV wouldn't they just see it as more production costs/promotion cost Vs a sale to an already potential buyer of either a SubC or DSSD?
Unless they plan on phasing out the DSSD and market their dive pieces as SubC's and SDC's! Interesting..... |

Personally, I'd love to seem them do a 42mm Sub/SD (or even 44), but if they don't, oh well I guess. I don't know why people seem so hell bent on declaring that this will "never happen".

You think? What makes you think that? I don't see that happening but would love if it did. However I do agree that if they did come out with one, it wouldn't be at 42mm though - not with the DSSD still in the lineup. Too redundant. |

Nothing I'd ever buy, but maybe it would be a good seller.

Whilst it might be a nice thought, it seems unlikely that a new SD will appear anytime soon. Rolex must have invested considerable finance in the Deepsea and only a few years back. Good as the Deepsea is, any new SD would surely impact negatively on it? There are still plenty of 16600 SDs about, so anyone thinking along those lines could do a lot worse than grabbing one ....or two...now!

It's just 4 weeks away. I'd wait. It wouldn't make a difference for me but I'd feel better having waited.

Get your SD...always more room in the safe for another down the road (or for a flip).

I have one with lug holes, then acquired another without lug holes when Rolex dropped the 16600 in favor of the DSSD. I still don't understand why the 16600 was dropped - it's still my favorite Rolex! |

What I find even more crazy is that you are making predictions for Basel 2015, experts can't even pin point the current year's new models or even within a 3 year range. Is your source a salesperson? Regarding the sea-dweller, I'm not sure how you could make a sub 42mm without overshadowing the green LVc and where would you price it? DSSD 12k, sub at 9k, the SD at 11k? Rolex would need to discontinue the DSSD to make room for an SD. The new SD is the DSSD. After all the Deepsea Challenge marketing, why step back in functionality, create a cheaper entry point for DSSD shoppers? It just logically makes no sense to me. I think ideally, Rolex will stick to making classics in classic sizes, see Daytona and recent auctions of Paul Newman Daytonas. The demand for 40mm, classic sizes and shapes is there, and by the wealthiest of buyers. No way Rolex goes with what a bunch of nerds on a dive watch forum want. |

Reading this old thread is so funny now.
