Help!!! My Boss, a Watch Enthusiast, Wearing Less Expensive Watch than Mine

I feel you bro!. Own 114060 and my boss own Breitling and 1623 DJ so I rarely wear my 114060 to the office and often wear my bell and ross 123 but sometime my colleagues ask about my watch then i simply answer this is my dad's watch and they just answer 'oooh I see'.

I presume the boss is more into what u can contribute to the company than what u wear on your wrist or what u drive to work....

Afterall he does know how much you are getting paid right....for me personally..i am lucky to be in a working enviroment with plenty of nice watches.

Agree, you have to make a judgement call based on what you know about him and your relationship, just for instance he might be cool with it but what if you were in a meeting together with clients or prospective clients and they see the watches you are both wearing and your company positions, it might not reflect well on either of you. This is just to illustrate there are many things to consider, it's probably not black and white, and only you will know what is the smart move for you.

In all seriousness, I wear more expensive watches than my whole management chain. Some are even into watches (not necessarily enthusiasts like folks here), and I never had a problem.

In my industry there are a lot of people who've moved from company to company and have amassed wealth a long the way. People tend to be judged more on what they accomplish than what's on their wrist. I hope that is the way it is where you are.

Years ago my uncle was asked by his boss if he and two other employees would come over to his house and close up his yard for the winter including covering the pool, they would of course get paid overtime as it was on a Saturday. When my uncle suggested to his boss that he should get an automatic pool cover because its what he had and it made covering the pool much easier he was let go about two weeeks later. I would be very careful about wearing that beauty. Some bosses, I don't know.....

Had our global CEO in town this week he wears a Blancpain I had my PP, he has ordered a new 911 Targa I drive a 5 year old 135i, trust me your boss knows he earns more than you, and will justify his decision if he is comfortable in his own skin. That or he will assume you have family money or something else, I highly doubt he will be concerned in the slightest.

Obviously I have no idea what your employer is like but I actually had a Captain once who wanted to deny a fellow officer I supervised of a pay raise simply because he drove a Lincoln Town car. I had to convince the moron that the guy really did deserve the raise and that he had inherited the vehicle from his deceased Father-in-Law. Unfortunately, people like this really do exist. Just saying.

A lot a people telling you not to worry but quite honestly, we all know that that is simply not true.

It all depends on his personality, your level, contribution, etc. he may be a CEO and you're the COO....in that case it doesn't matter but if he's a manager of a department and you're his buyer, I'd be a little more cautious....

Personality plays a big role. I had a boss who would run into my office, we would strip our watches off and talk about them. Every new acquisition led to a great dialogue. I now work for someone who even though likes watches, is a little jealous of what I have.

I was wearing my Big Pilot and he had me take it off, look at it and proceeded to tell everyone at the table (5 other employees) that it was a $10k watch....embarrassing and unprofessional behavior to say the least....but I had it coming because I didn't want to care....

I now care and pay attention to those things.... I will also try and match the crowds when I travel with my CEO (he's a Rolex guy) I will make sure to have my new rolex with me....and so on and so forth...

A little common sense goes a long way....!
