If the watch is a good genuine item, would you sell it on Ebay with their 10% commission, Paypals 3% commission and the risk of lost in postage? HK has a market for Rolex, any Tom Dick and Harry has one, so why would you sell it on Ebay?

I don't think the OP would've found this watch on an independent HK watch seller's site. More potential customers = higher price. 10+% can be worth it easily. |

EBay is a great outlet used my many companies to sell in a world wide market. Yes there are also scammers but there are plenty outside of eBay as well. I suspect there are even some on the forum. Just because it's eBay doesn't mean it's crap.

I am not saying Ebay items are crap; just be careful.
The seller is asking £1360 for a Rolex with 95% feedback, There is no logic to it, giving up 13% in commission. if the watch is worth £1360 the seller can easily get this or a better price selling in HK. People in HK spending £1360 on a Rolex is nothing to them; and the market from China as well.

The watch market in Hong Kong is one of the biggest in the world. With the amount of trade and capital going in and out of the city, everyone wants the latest and greatest. It's the same case with watches. People buy a new model then trade it for next year's "upgraded" model, etc. Thus there is a surplus of "used" and "preowned" watches. If I was a watch dealer, I'd try to move the "used" inventory to get liquidity for new inventory.

I would think that given your stated occupation that ethics would have some bearing on your behavior, even if the law doesn't.

I'm not arguing with you Grady, but why 'unethical'?
