Are prices really better there? Competition? Currency conversion?

Whats the price like in Japan for a SS black dial Daytona? Is it much better than could be had here on TRF from a trusted seller?

Asking because I will be traveling to Japan from time to time with work... never thought of picking up a watch there before though.

Who would have thought Rolex prices cheaper in Japan than Australia, oh well our status of highest prices continues.......

Check the websites I linked to. The best prices are in Tokyo. I imagine you might be flying into Yokota. Easy trip into Nakano from there. If Otto is free he might join you. He is the best guide to the ins and outs of Rolex mania in Tokyo.

Bring your passport for the duty free.

It also helps that the yen has dropped about 20% against the dollar in the last couple of years (I think that figure's correct, Tom?).

Yea, the Dollar is stronger. That helps. I think at one point it was 78 Yen to the Dollar. Yikes if you are using greenbacks. Now it is over 102. They do sometimes tweek the prices to take currency fluctuations into account.

You bet, Tom. HK$ is also exchange-linked to the greenback, so might also be over there shopping with the missus in the not too distant.

Sweet. Kyushu is beautiful and friendly too. Don't rule it out. Most folks just go to Honshu.

You can't find a better guy or guide than Tom! It looks like you had a lot of fun! That RG Daytona looks especially good to me!

Wow. Is that 20K USD for a Platona? If so, would they sell and ship to an American using a credit card or PP? I can't fly there due to medical issues (although I lived in Tokyo for many years).

Maybe I misunderstood the the post. If accurate, Gaijjin, you could make a fortune adding 5K each and selling Platonas internationally.

No, I am not sure how you made that inference, 20 + grand was for the Rose Gold Ceramic Bezel Ivory Dial Daytona on a strap.

The Platonas were priced as you would expect them to be priced.
