3185 vs. 3186 movement, whats the big deal?

M-serial Explorer IIs have engraved flange since late 2007/early 2008. GMT 16710s has not. There are differences between models and serial numbers. I replied in reference to my specific watch as it was pictured, and it is an Explorer II.

No replicas in my house... ever... The picture is photoshopped, with increased grain, sharpening, and B/W effect everywhere but on the red 24 h hand, which you can see if you look closely. This might explain the text being percieved as black. In addition the serial number is removed (also photoshop).

The watch is bought new at an AD from which I have bought several Rolexes during many years, and they also have in-house Rolex watchmakers which service my watches, and with whom I have a personal contact.

All my stuff is real.

thanks Sheldon for posting that. Yes, I have seen that video before. Comparing that video to the action of my M series Exp II (3186), there does seem to be a bit of movement of the 24 hand as you advance and reverse the standard hour hand. But not a huge deal, it's certainly not a deal killer. so for me, the jury is still out...

Sorry, but why do we do this "wiglle test" instead of just count the number of jumps of the hour's hand while we set up the time, in just one complete crown's tour?

As I know, it's about 5-6 for 3185 and 8-9 for 3186, due to the modification of the GMT wheel for 3186 (I can be wrong), but I think it's a easiest way to decide if we have one 3185 or 3186?

I Keep Hearing about the wiggle test and do agree it works , However how about the Crown Test which would seem more accurate and positive to me. Acording to pass reports on this and other forms if you unscrew crown and set to adjust the 24 hour hand the 3186 movement will jump the 24 hour hand 8 times to one exact revolution of the crown , this is due to the gear changes in the new 3186 movement. If your watch has the older 3185 movement the 24 hour hand will only jump 5-6 times. Considering the gear change this should be a more positive test then the wiggle test . Is this verified? My new (second hand) V serial Explorer II adjusts 8 hours with a full crown rotation. That makes it a 3186 right?

That is correct.

The 3186 movement was installed in some 'M' series. Your 'V' would therefore also have it.
