The 26 is a classic size for the women. But other sizes look great too. My wife uses my Air King (34mm) as a daily wearer and it looks great. Her 26mm OP is now used for more formal occasions.

I'd get her a 36mm explorer or air king.

Go 31mm or 36mm depending on her wrist and or body type. My Wife likes the 31mm and we sold all her 26mm... Good Luck! She will love it!

If it were me I would take a look at all of her existing watches and see what kind of sizes she buys when she picks herself a watch, then I would go up a size. For example, if most of her watches are 26mm, I would go mid-size 31mm. If most of her watches seem ~31mm, I would consider jumping up to 36mm for her Rolex.
If all of he watches are 26mm size or thereabouts, jumping straight to a 36mm might feel a little big for her. This is all only if you cannot take her to try them on of course. Good Luck

I personally do not like to go with what is trendy, and go with what suites my wrist size the most.
Here is my 26mm and my wrist is 5.5 inches. I love my 26mm DJ so much that I purchased another 26mm OP with dome bezel and oyster bracelet. Please keep us posted on the outcome. You wife will love her new watch. |

Wife has a 31MM and it looks great. The dial on the 26MM is kind of hard to read IMHO.

I dont know her age, but I do recommend the 36mm unless she has very tiny wrists then I recommend 31mm or Airking 34mm or whatever its called now. I have plenty of watches around the 26mm to 29mm range when I was younger. As I aged, & we all do, I found that the 36mm range was best. Now, like I said, I dont know your wife's age, but I'll be 49 in February & I ** definitely ** need 36mm. I hope to live a LONG life & I find 36mm will take me to my golden years just fine. If I need a 60mm, well, I best be getting laser eye surgery. LOL All in all, we all age, & as normal growth & development criteria, so does our eyesight. SO...unless she has teeny tiny wrists, I would go for the 36mm size. Will carry her from now to there..
Edited to add...I also wear the 14060M Submariner 40mm with no issue. Another option if she is sporty. Discontinued now but still available. :-D |

My wife has the 35mm YM and loves it. I bought it as a surprise for her but she has since seen the 29mm YM and prefers the mid size a LOT more. She is only 5' 0" with small wrists and it looks great.
I would go 36mm! |

Depends on her style. Does she follow the most current trends etc.? Also, will this be her only rolex, or will there be others in the future? I ask these questions, because if she is trendy, she may like the larger watch size of 36. If she is more demure/classic with her style, she may prefer the 31 or even the 26. Buying a 36 is ok IMO if she plans to purchase another rolex in the future, or if she already has a smaller sized rolex. Larger watches are popular right now, but I'm sure eventually smaller sized watches will be back in vogue. I think a 26 can be elegant, and a 36 is more of a sporty look. The 31 is a good in between size ;)
Any of these sizes can look great on a lady IMO. It's all subjective and personal taste. Wrist size and body type have a lot to do with it. I've seen 36 look great on some ladies, and then look way too huge on others (like they are borrowing someone else's watch, which looks odd to me). On the other hand, I've seen 26 look amazing on some ladies and too tiny on others. For myself I stay 31 and below on the DateJust. The 36 feels too big on my somewhat small wrist and I don't feel comfortable wearing a dress with the 36 (Of course this doesn't matter if you have smaller watches or another small sized rolex to wear). The 31 is a great size for me. Not too small and not too big. You already feel that the 26 is too small, so take a look at her wrist and try to imagine if a 36 would be ok for her size and her style. Or better yet, have her try on a 36 somehow. If you think it might be a tad too big, go for the 31 to be on the safe side ;) I think the 31 and 26 are timeless for ladies. |

I like the 26mm best but 31mm is probably better for some ladies - I would pick the ladies size for anyone with small stature. I think the "big watch" fad will blow over .
Some examples from the web: 26mm 31mm |

Thanks for all the feedback. Her wrist is 5.5 inches and I think the pic mat Allston put up looks good as they have the same size wrist. She was just offered a job as gm of a resort up in tahoe, so want to surprise her will a well deserved gift.
