Many years ago, I gave up giving things up for lent, for lent. I worked out well, so I have stuck with it.

The old joke is "I gave up zeppelin flying for Lent". But living in Minneapolis, I think I gave up being warm for Lent, given the late surge of winter weather.

But in reality, I give up TV for Lent. A nice break. Listen to a lot of music and read closer to the volume I did in college. Then MLB season starts in early April, and I catch up by watching MLB Extra Innings.

For two years, i gave up listening to Judas Priest and then Megadeth. I think that this year, i may try to give up another band that i listen to regularly. Perhaps playing the guitar. That'd be hard. Perhaps, i don't know.

I haven't thought about it yet. Normally I do something, even if it is minimal. I know I know! What a sad Catholic I am! I did participate in Ash Wednesday today however. I think Easter this year is gonna pass me by. Too much going on. Otherwise, I might give up cursing. But h***, maybe not.

I gave up a tooth for lent.

I am getting an implant because the root of an old root canal tooth cracked, so I had the tooth pulled yesterday. I have to wear some sort of apparatus called a flipper until June. I guess I can eat with it, but it feels weird. I took communion with it in.

I am married, so if that isn't enough of a sacrifice, I don't know what would be

I used to give up red meat for lent. However, I have given up all types of meat excluding fish/seafood for over 8 months now. I don't see myself being able to give up anything this lent otherwise I will be left with nothing to eat!

I think I should try giving up alcohol this year.

Are you INSANE???????? NO NO NO NO NO NO!

Booze is a coping mechanism...you take that away, you might as well drive in to a wall.
Seriously, there is no way I can NOT drink wine for the Lent season. So...I dont bother. If those of you are strong willed & can do it, give it a try.

Otherwise, give up chocolate. ( I dont know a lot of wine drinkers serious about chocolate..so should be easy. ).

All the best! So glad I decided to NOT include steak to give up steak...I would have failed miserably. LOL

Hehe! I wanted to say something here. One shouldn't compare his penitential act to another... If it's a sacrifice to you then that's all it should be! I know someone giving up soft triple ply toilet paper... I know another who is sleeping on the floor during lent.. Ones not more a higher sacrifice then another it's the fact ur changing something in your life. I applaud all of you!

Yes and every time one that I'm not familiar with posts I shoot them a PM like I did with you.

Not ONLY that, but our TRF'rs come in from Florida (Figbo), Connecticut (MikeB), Michigan (GaugeBuilder), Ohio (Theken), etc. when we have our Pittsburgh GTGs.

Heck, even when Paul, from California was in Pittsburgh, we had a quick GTG at Fridays in Monroeville.

Me, Paul (VTCGuy) Doc (DucatiDoc)

So yes, there are others and they walk among us.

Alcohol and red meat, but this year I'm also trying to do something positive instead of just sacrificing - some sort of charity or volunteer work.

I've been able to stick with giving up all sweets - cookies, cake, cannoli, nutella, ice cream, syrup, jelly, jam, etc, etc, etc. I think I've gained a pound because I'm eating way too much of everything else. I plan on really monitoring what I'm eating in conjunction with what I'm not eating so I'll actually be giving something up.
